Tranny Problems
Has anyone else had tranny problems with a 6spd? If so what do you think this is..
I was driving around yesterday and when I whould shift from second to third the shifter would be in the third gear position but it would engage first gear. Then later in the day it suddenly whouldn't go into 2nd. I'd put the shifter in second but it wouldn't be in gear. (it would only do this randomly. about 1/3 of the time) Finally after I had to yank the shifter out of the 1st gear position I lost every gear.. only way I got the car out of the middle of the intersection what after I put the shifter in reverse I managed to get 3rd gear. After that I couldn't even get 3rd gear back. The car was towed to the dealership. Hoping someone had some insight as to what the issue was. (might save the dealership time in fixing it.. cuz i really want my wheels back) I got the car w/ 15,800 on it and it had 16,600 on it when they towed it 3 days after I left the dealership with it. |

Not sure, but it might be the syncros, or maybe your shifter is loose.

Take it back to the dealer sounds like a warranty issue. I couldn't go in reverse so I took it to the dealership and got a brand new transmission warranty problem

it was towed to the dealership but they won't be open till monday. and it just started snowing here.. and since it rarely snows here everyone starts going crazy and all.. (avoid walmart in arkansas if it is about to start snowing.. you'll get trampled) i have a feeling that it might be late monday or tuesday before it gets started on.

I agree with the shifter being loose, or the synchros. Hopefully its just the first one and you will be back on the road shortly.

My transmission broke due to a shitty output shaft bearing. When it gave out, the metal dropped into the gears like a bomb exploding.

I dont' see it being syncros.. I'm thinking shift linkage or main shaft inside the tranny (the one that works the the shift forks)

Sounds like either synchros or linkage. Did it have an aftermarket shifter in it when you bought it? Something might have come loose. The dealer will sort it out.

A good trans tech will be able to take care of it. Sounds like an internal problem, maybe a bent shift fork. Should be no problem for a tech with Tremec experience. There is really no way to speculate what is wrong other than a tech digging into it.

Dude you bought what you call a "new" car with 15,000 miles on it (I saw your other thread). No "demo" car has 15,000 miles, I hope you didn't pay more than 20k for this car. Especially since for some strange reason someone put a V6 fascia on it (I know some folks don't care for mail slot and change it out, but a dealer wouldn't do that. Makes me wonder if it was in an accident). Good luck either way though.....
