***blown MOTOR?***

hey i normally check the these forums but im mostly on ctsvowners but im having an issue i cant fix. hopefully u guys can help me out

so for past 2 weeks car started to feel like it would hit some sort of boost cut, shudder or misfire. i thought it was because i had br6 plugs and that they were crapping out. i then bought ngk br7 plugs and drove to my tuner to check them out. he started to check the car out and stated the hptuners said there was a misfire in bank 1. He swapped the plugs(old plugs were good no oil etc, looked fine) = SILL MISFIRE then swapped the coils= SILL MISFIRE. He then came to a conclusion that it may be rocker arms springs etc. And he sees no indication of blow by. BEFORE i give him the go ahead to check the head, is there anything i should check?

is it possible it can be the head and why?
THANKS

checked the valve train on bank 1 looks good.

im thinking i have to do leak down test...maybe its the bottom end but at 40k? and 500whp(mustang dyno)?

Sounds fishy to me, I would still suspect the coils. When you say he swapped the coils did they swap the coils around that were already on the car or did he put a new coil in?

We had one guy here who had a similar issue, His plugs looked melted. I know you already switched yours but can you post a picture of them?

What mods do you have and any other pertinent information you could provide that we could use to help you?

sounds like he narrowed it down to cylinder 1, you are going down the right path the next step is narrow it down more, remove the valve cover and verify the rockers - springs rotocoils - lifters - Cam etc are intact etc... then a leakdown/compression test would be the next step if the above check out.. possible that you could have a burned valve or broken ring...

question - does the miss fire noise only appear in the exhaust? or can you hear a pop in the intake?

thanks guys really needing some help here.he said it was BANK1=all 4 cyl but ill verify in a few
put new plugs in and he swapped all 4 coil packs from passenger side to driver side and problem persisted.
that is how he ruled out coils.... maybe wires? but doubt it

took off bank1 valve cover pushed down on the springs no movement i watched bank1 while car was idling for few seconds everything was moving nicely.

leak down test now?
what else would cause this? nothing else i can check?

thanks for help guys im trying to figure this out before i have to take it into a shops

check vacuum too. Compression/leakdown test to verify the rings are sealing. If the engine is "blown" one of these parameters will not be in the normal range.

probably not blown then. Make sure all of the plug leads are fully clicked in. Take them off and reinsert. It is easy to get the boot on and the lead is not clicked. Double check the plugs to make sure the porcelain is not cracked somewhere. This is the most likely scenario.

So, what you are saying is he is seeing misfires for cylinders 1, 3, 5 and 7? And your plugs all look okay? Have you compared them to the bank 2 plugs? I would suspect something loose in the coil harness connection for that side if that is the case. Or, possibly an O2 sensor issue that is causing that side to run too lean.

I know this may sound strange, but what about a blown/clogged cat on that side?

Check your plug wires on bank one, before you do anything else. You checked plugs and coils but not what is in between them.

The tuner hasn't been picking up the phone so I can find out if it was one particular cylinder.... but he made it seem like it was all of bank 1. How likely are all the wires bad on that side? Or how likely is that whole side of engine is bad?

My mods are
cat delete,
Full exhaust
63 lbs injectors
15 lbs of boost
(Upper and lower)
I have the lingenfelter 650 kit
I got it retune I made 500/510 mustang dyno

I'll check the wires but I would need to get new ones as I have efi live and supposedly it doesn't detect a miss fire like hptuners

My buddy had a similar misfire and it ended up being an injector plug that did not have good contact.
