The sticker for a base 350z is gonna be a lot more than an LS right? Like at least 5 more. The total cost of ownership is also gonna be a bit higher.

Not saying it won't be a good car just would rather save my money and have something that will last the rest of my life if taken care of properly.

Guess what happens if you take an early 80's 300z or RX7 to a dealer? They won't even touch it or say "what's that?". You won't get that from a Camaro & Chevy service center 25 years from now.

Ahhh but the G35 is closer in size to the Camaro than the 350Z. I have added the G35's dimensions to the table:

Dimensions:
__________350Z___Camaro__G35
Length____169.8___190.4___187.0
Width______71.5____75.5____69.8
Height _____52.1____54.2____57.2
Weight_____3320___3750____3497
'volume'_____366____451_____432 cubic feet
'density'____9.07____8.31____8.09 pounds per cubic foot

Given that you seem satisfied with the size of the G35, the size of the Camaro shouldn't bother you.

400lbs.

i mean the V6 is supposed to do 0-60 around 5.7 right?

350 does it in 5.3, and after 60mph the camaro has lost its advantage and the top end of the Z will end the race.

now you put the 350 against an SS... and ill have to help get the melted rubber off their windshield post-race haha
This is right.. The 350z will beat the new V6 Camaro simply because of the weight difference. If the Camaro is a success which I have no doubt it will be, the 6th generation (I would hope) better be lighter..I would say this 5th gen should last about 8 years and it is plenty of time to build another lighter weight Camaro chassis from the ground up that is lighter and better suited for efficiency and speed..

Thanks. I never looked at measurements or the two cars side by side. They just always struck me as being a similar size, but the numbers don't lie. The Camaro still comes off as a little overweight, but those numbers do explain some of the difference. Density isn't the greatest comparison tool though, since larger cars will naturally be less "dense" (ratio of weight to size) as the major weight components - engine, transmission, etc - don't change to match the size of the car much.

I think in the end, the 350Z, at least in base trim, slots in between the V6 and SS Camaros, much closer to the SS, in performance and price. Doesn't mean the V6 Camaro isn't great though. Its good for the price, which puts it closer to cars like the RX8. I think it can take an RX, as long as there are enough straights.

The new camaro can def beat the Rx8 ... I have even seen very slightly modified(intake/exhaust) Acura RSX type S(210 hp) beating stock RX8(238 HP)... Rx8 is a good handling car but no balls. I always thought they looked butt ugly.

Good point. Just curious if anyone knows what the new G37s coupes running? (1/4 mile, 0 to 60)

EDIT: Found it here http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do.../pageId=125984
