P0300 Random Cyl. Misfires with new IM?
O.K. guys-
I've put this thing on twice now I was attempting to swap to a ported IM with Rx 3/8th's spacer from my OE IM with a Mace, and I'm getting frustrated . I also added Mace's plenum spacer. The first time I figured I just was too stingey with the gasket maker. Car starts but almost immediately begins to buck and idle very rough- will die if no gas is given. After 2nd install, I got the same result. I was figuring its an airleak- but now I dunno . Anyone seen this? Help!!:( |

Are you only using an OEM gasket on 1 side or both for the manifold?

Make sure those 4 little things that mace sent are still there, or else that means it went through. |

It is not how much you apply of the gasket maker, it is more what type you are using, where you place it and for how long. My car has started perfectly for half an hour before the gasket maker failed. I didnt leave it to cure . Im waiting for the OEM gasket to arrive tommorow and re-do the whole job again. Jay has advised me to check the leak by spraying brake cleaner near the gaskets. I will do that just to determine where exactly my RTV has failed.

make sure you've attached all the hoses back on as well. i forgot the brake booster hose on the rear drivers side once and was like "WTF?! ...oh, im an idiot". just something to think about.

Yes, at first start-up I left a single small box wrench sitting on the metal apron at the nose of the car w/hood closed. That wrench started to rattle and I had visions of an aluminum spacer playing pinball in the valve train!! Just about threw up in the car- then the engine died. Man I thought I'd screwed the Pooch! All spacers were in place, thankfully, and I went back thru adding gasket maker to all surfaces (sparingly). Gave it more than 24hrs to cure, and still got the same result... All hoses quadruple checked. I'm suspecting perhaps those spacers have too small an opening to let those little black plastic liners in the plenum lid to seat. perhaps this is part of my leak? Will use the brake cleaner spray next start-up- Thanks Cyber. Guess I'm gonna get to do this a third time- not fun. I may go back to my good'ol Mace- never had an issue there. Thanks for the help and re-assurance guys- any other input is appreciated. |

I had to RTV the manifold gasket to the 25mm spacer to get rid of my vaccum leak.

Wasn't Jay experiencing the exact same problem with his car causing Jim to sale it. Hmmmmm.

My buddy and I forgot to attach the MAF sensor and it took us a few minutes to figure out why the car was just dying after starting it.

I know its gotta be an airleak/vacuum leak somewhere, but I've tried all the cures mentioned so far. I'm getting stumped |

It sounds like you're definitely checking all the right things, I doubt one insulator would cause this while the other would not - maybe try OEM gaskets on both sides and skip the RTV altogether?
