2011 V6 won't start, Scan Tool displays U0100
HELP! It is not a battery issue since I just had it checked by two different sources (Advance Auto Parts where I bought the battery from two months ago-long story) and a friend who has a repair shop.
Nothing engine related works meaning it will not start. Windows do not go up or down but radio, door chimes, door locks work. Checked relays under the hood, all look good and none fried (tested with multi-meter). I have an INNOVA 3140b scan tool which displays a U0100 code (#07EB) when hooked into the OBD2 port. No communication with the ECM thus no codes to read. Scan tool is new and works since I used it on another vehicle. Only aftermarket electric is HID headlights with ballasts, HID fogs and Technostalgia tail lights. I have had these installed for over a year and this problem just began recently. I had to replace the battery a few months back because I was out and about on a Saturday when I could not get the car to start. No choice but to buy another battery from Advance Auto Parts (they were within walking distance) after they checked the factory one and deternined a bad cell. NOTE: One week after I bought the car I had to take it back to the dealer and after testing determined I had a bad battery from the factory and it was replaced) Dealership told me that they can have it towed to them which is what might need to happen if I can't figure this out. C5 fest is right around the corner, all reservations made, and this thing won't start! :( |

Sounds like something is prematurely frying batteries.

I have had electrical issues before and figured out the two root causes.
1) I hadn't tightened the fuse panel down completely, don't worry about threading the screws, make sure the screws are tight enough till they stop turning. 2) The positive battery post in the engine bay was not properly grounded. God knows how that happened, but I would take a look at both.

From what I read the code means bad or no connection to the ECM. And they way to reset it is to disconnect the battery and reconnect

Yeah but you know what, if this is happening on and off, on today than its an intermediate problem that may also be frying the batteries. take it to the dealer let them figure it out, might be some thing as simple as a louse connection of a pin in some connector. good luck!

Thanks for all of the replies. About a year ago I added Oracle HID headlights and that apparently is now the problem. Everything was wired correctly according to the manuf. guidelines and no problem until just recently. I guess maybe something came loose because I just had a call from the dealer (called Roadside Assist. and they had a rollback here in 20 minutes) that his guy would have to rewire the lights in order to correct this entire issue. Whatever it takes at this point since the fest is next week!
$230 bucks is better than frying a computer that would not be under warranty....I guess that includes the tow bill as well.... If the thing starts each time I want it to and stops being a very large and expensive yard ornament I'll be happy! |

^ Pretty much the reason why I have sworn off working with the electrical system of this car. The hell with it, it's way too complicated for my taste.
