Agreed, the only way a 2010 SS is going to be taking down any C6 Vettes with just a 'few mods' depends greatly on how one defines 'few mods'. You might be able to match 600+ pound difference with bolt-ons on the SS but you'll need a cam to surpass the Vette.

Cam, headers, cai, cat-back, tune to offset weight differential.

To me it is just amazing that this is going to be a bat out of hell being stock. Ok had to get that out of my system.
Don't forget the vette is not just about straight line speed, so don't raise your expectations too high. This is a 3860lb car after all.

there's ways around that. tuned suspension and weight reduction.

And then you are risking voiding the new 100,000 mile GM warranty. If you are inclined to do that, then why not buy an inexpensive 06 Vette with a few miles that is out of warranty and mod it to death?? Faster for less money.

You could always marry the Camaro and have a custom vag installed.

On the note about similar horsepower vs dissimilar weight, just remember that it takes roughly 10 horsepower to overcome 100lbs (generally). You would need about 60 extra horsepower. So after full exhaust, cam, and tune, you should be on par. Remember, that's in theory only though.

I second that! The Camaro5 stirs up so much emotion when you look at it. The vettes dont do half as much for me.

Dude, be careful what you wish for. You might be at a light in a Yugo when you hear an SS's horn honking next to you with your (ex)wife smiling at you as she lights up the rear end! Damn, I'd hate to be that guy!!!

I agree, stock for stock the gap has widened with the C6 and 5th Gen vs the C5 and 4th Gen. The gap has doubled in lbs/hp. These are based on highest hp ratings and approximate weights.

C5 LS1, 350hp, 3300lbs = 9.4 lbs/hp
4th gen LS1, 345hp, 3500lbs = 10.14

Difference 0.74 lbs/hp

C6 LS3, 436, 3300lbs = 7.57
5th gen LS3, 426, 3900lbs = 9.15
5th gen L99, 400, 3900lbs = 9.75

Difference 1.58 and 2.18 lbs/hp
