I dont know...but I just put the rubber piece in and it stop the noise for me as well and it cost less than 10 dollar and less than 10 min of my time.

Had the LF strut replaced - no more noise - a miracle as no one could explain why and GM thinks this is not a problem. Normal as I was told...

There are two sources of noise in the OE strut assembly.

1. Is a flutter in the hydraulics of the OE damper. The damper works perfectly, but there is a noise caused by the valve action. It is very slight. There has been a running change made to eliminate it.

2. The rubber insulator that was used for about the first year of production could 'walk' out of place. The partially in partially out condition could create a click under certain conditions. When installing Pedders coilovers we simply discard it, but it should be used with OE or lowering coils. The updated insulator is a stamped steel and urethane bit. If I didn't know better I would say it was designed at Pedders. We have successfully eliminated strut noises by installing the new steel and urethane insulator shown on the right in the image below.

If you are wondering which one is on your 5th Gen, grab a flashlight and look up into the wheel well where the spring meet the upper perch. If the exposed ring is beige, you have the new one. If the ring is black you have the old one.

There is no TSB on this. It is one of many running changes being constantly made to improve the 5th Gen.

The 4th gen guys over on LS1 Tech have names for all of the typical low cost mods they do (heater hose mod, etc.). I can see this turning into the toilet mod or something equally funny

+1 for a very loud noise and feeling like something broke when going over some bumps...

I went ahead and bought the endlinks, thinking it could be them going out, even though my car only has 14k miles on it. Guess what, it's fixed my problem. Absolutely ZERO clunking now. Not saying this is your problem, but it's a possibility. Personally, I wouldn't fill in the gap.
What endlinks did you use? I have BMR's and they are starting to make noise. I re-torqued and I'm confident everything is tight.

I got the Pfadt ones.

BTW: I think Chase is the only one that has them right now. Pfadt is going to run another batch soon though.

play, so quick question...can it happen at all in the rears? I have a rattling noise coming from my right rear wheel well on any bump, very metal on metal embarrassing noise...im not driving it till i find the problem. tried tightening various things but after a week...still much rattle. it sounds like metal on metal...
