I hope to see me complete this too. I was actually planning on building my own heat shield and scrapping at least the top portion of the box.

So the silicon is mostly cured. Not sure how I feel about it. I might try to peel it off and put something like a piece of plastic under it for rigidity

Cut out a piece of curved plastic to fit behind the hole. This one is epoxy welded and bondo'd over.

It could possibly be the "clear" silicone? Now that I think back a little farther, I have used the Ultra Black on a factory air intake tube to seal up a sensor hole about 5/8" in diameter, and had zero issues also. So between the two intakes I've siliconed holes in (using Ultra Black), I've probably ran the patched up intakes for at least 1 year to a year and a half with no issues. I don't think I have ever used a clear silicone so I'm not familiar with it's properties, but Ultra Black seems pretty rigid.

Any parts store like Napa, Baxter's, etc should have it. It's about $6.00 a tube.

I want to say Permatex, but I don't have a tube in front of me... I've tried to get it in big tubes at lowes but couldn't find it... Check a parts store (Napa, etc), they should have it for sure. Or you could try a different route, don't do it just because I had no problems with it.

Awesome. Nice job! Would you say it holds well? The more I look at the silicon over my hole the better I feel about it. But it does have some give and flexibility to it.

Been running it for two years. I wanted to keep a stock looking engine compartment but that friggen resonator is hideous to look at. Everytime I clean my maf/throttle body I check it and it's holding perfectly.

The intake looks really good with bondo over it. I've never used bondo before, what exactly is it? It looks like you were able to smooth it out and make it look really clean. would you be able to paint over it?

Grab a tub of bondo (a putty that hardens) from your local auto store and mix small amounts according to the directions. Also grab yourself some sandpaper, 150, 220 and 320 plus some spray paint (I used matte black). Looking at it you shouldn't be able to tell there was ever a hole there. Take your time and it'll come out good.

That should work fine. Mix it up, put it on, wait until it gets hard, sand it nice, prime it, and paint it.
