Great driver, healthy car, good tires = high 13s stock.

Okay driver, healthy car, good tires = low 14s stock.

FWIW - I'd make sure the water pump is in good condition; if it's been replaced, that means it's leaked all over the distributor and make sure that's been changed too. Also, the intakes liked leaking oil and there's a special silicone GM had offered specifically for this problem. Check into those and I think, for the most part, you'll be a happy buyer.

intake can be as cheap as you want. ive seen PVC custom intakes for 400rwhp LT1s, get a good filter and look around for a decently priced CAI.

exhaust, check out www.herronperformance.com Ceramic coated pacesetter longtube headers and off road y-pipe for right around $500.00

cam, depending on what you want, you will need to replace the lifters, springs, valve seals, retainers, seats, might as well swap out the rockers and pushrods as well. cc503 and the 847 cams are about as big as you can go on stock heads tho.

whats your budget and what are your goals?

I'd look for a used LS1 and do an engine swap rather then mod the LT1. You'll love it, man.

www.car-parts.com, you can use this website to search junkyards in your area.

If you have a buddy who wrenches, and don't have to worry about smog, you can also think about seeing if there's still an LT4 converstion kit.

going thru the trouble to get an LS1 in there would be a waste. you can do a lot to an LT1 with $3k.

then look to suspension mods, like subframe connectors, double adjustable lower control arms, adj panhard bar, lca relocation brackets, aftermarket t/a.

in fact, if you got the money now, www.herronperformance.com is having a 20% off sale on all UMI stuff.

you could leave the engine alone and put a sts turbo (single) setup for. then you could run low boost 5psi around town and put into high boost when that mustang pulls next to you.... he wont know what happen youll be going past 100 before he hits 60 LOL.....

I still say engine swap. You can easily get away with it for 3K and the change will be ridiculous.

but you wouldnt just be swapping the motor, you've got to swap the trans, heater hoses, k-member, suspension, fuel pump, pressure regulator, vss, vats simulator, plus you have to modify the way the radiator is setup as the LS1 cars have the radiator sitting more upright than the LT1 cars do.

or you can spend that 3k on a heads/cam/intake setup and bolt-ons and walk most LS1s all day long.
