Rock through Windshield

After only two weeks with my car. I took a rock to the windshield right in the center. It is small enough that it can probably be repaired but will still show a little bit. Should I live with the repair or get the whole windshield replaced? What would you do?

I would repair the windshield for now. If it spiders then replace. It may never spider. Sometimes windows when they are replaced might not seal just right and have to do it over. Just my opinion.

Happened to me last month, but the crack went all the way to the edge (which, as I understand it, requires replacement... they can't fix it).

New, factory windshield: $575 (I have a hud, dunno if it's cheaper without).

Where did you get the windshield for that price? I got quoted over $800 for mine and I have a HUD as well.

I got a quote of $422 from Safelite. I have AAA insurance, but the deductable is $500. So I guess I will be paying for the replacement.

I hope it can be repaired..

Check with your insurance company about a replacement or repair. Rock damage to a windshield is done for free in my experience. Plus it doesn't effect your rates.

Yup....if its repairable its free.
If it has to be replaced then you have to pay.

It's different from state to state. In Florida there's no deductible for replacement or repair

It's worthwhile to try the repair if it is a star and not a crack. Often the star is virtually invisible after the repair. If it is noticeable, go ahead and replace it. I'm sure you wouldn't want it to show on your new car.

If you have to pay (glad it isn't that way here) why not have it repaired if it can be?

Repair and if it is a bother then replace.

Too replace, talk to ur dealer about cutting you a price break on an OEM windshield. They give shops about 30% discounts, You may get 10-15% off. Then talk to their installer (he will be an independent) about a price. Should be about $75 to $125 for the installer.

I find the OEM glass to be of better quality than aftermarket.

From a local car glass repair place (NOT safelite). And that's the installed price, not their cost on the window which is obviously less. I was standing at the desk when she called the parts dept of the local GM dealer when she ordered it, so... GM?

When you have it fixed, or repaired...... have this installed and you won't lose another windshield unless it is a brick. Most installers will replace the windshield should damage occur with it installed.
