Based on my discussions with a GM Design Engineer for the 1LE and Z/28 last week at PRI, all 2014 and 2015 Camaros have the wheel well liners shown in these pictures that close off the bottom of the front fascia in front of the wheels and will accept the Z/28 brake duct kit. The 2013 and earlier Camaros do not. He recommended I fabricate inserts that close off this area that include the ramped area you see in the photos. This ramped area is basically a diffuser that creates additional airflow for brake cooling. He also stated that the slope of the ramped area should not exceed 7 degrees. You should also note that the rubber "airdam" has been cut down in the left photo to stop at the outside edge of the diffuser so that airflow to this area is unimpeded.

Those were the engineers words. I took it as not allowing any oil leakage, spills, etc. to build up and be retained on the top of the belly pan. Like I said previously, his recommendation for max aerodynamic effect was go with the closed off ZL1 belly pan.

All good info, thanks for sharing. Do you have any plan to fabricate something that fills the gap (between the wheel well lining and the belly pan)?

Did they really think the gaps in the Z/28 pan would result in a noticeable aerodynamic disadvantage versus the ZL1 pan?

My plan, because I have a 2013 which is open between the front fascia/splitter and the wheel well liner is to close off the whole area from the framerails to the fender with the ramped area I discussed and then install a ZL1 belly pan or an aluminum panel.

The engineer felt given a choice the ZL1 pan would create more downforce than the Z/28 slotted pan. Remember that the engineers don't always get everything they want. Sometimes changes are made for convenience of service. My guess is the difference is not large, but I understand how the slots could be disruptive to the airflow under the car causing less negative pressure and a reduction in downforce ( negative lift).

td195f, that's some nice info there thank you!

Did you ask the engineer any questions in regards to temperature control and airflow on the '13 1LE?

I would also like to then know if the 2014 fender liners would fit on a 2013 so these diffusers with the ramped area for the brake cooling could be retrofitted onto a 2013.

So does anyone know if the 2014 fender liners would be compatible to bolt up to a 2013 model?

Or maybe even a 2010????

This is excellent sswiss3000! Are you concerned about cooling at all without having a ZL1 or 14-15 style hood?

sswiss3000 added the complete ZL1 front end, and it looks like from the 3rd pic, it includes the front two fender pieces for in front of the wheels... It looks like it also has that notch for brake cooling effect and similar design.

This is excellent and thanks for sharing the info with us!! I would love to see some photos of your finished car and let us know if you perceived any improvement to downforce at speed for us "track savvy" '10 - '13 owners. I was thinking along the same lines in that the ZL1 belly pan was likely designed and developed for 2012-2013 cars so it may be the best choice for us.

I have also added the ZL1 style extractor to my car, so no I am not worried. I have to admit that the heat extractor seems to be pulling a lot of heat out of the engine bay. When ever I drive the car for a longer time and then stop I can literally see the heat coming out of the hood vent.

Those two triangle shaped pieces in front of the wheel are part of the ZL1 Wheel liners. They wrap over the wheels and then have a 90 degree angle at the bottom, which gets screwed to the bottom splitter of the front fascia.

So does anyone have the ZL1 Wheel Liner P/Ns and will they work with a non ZL1 front end with a little work or would i be better off building my close out panels for that portion of the underside???
