There is no such thing as a good cheap radar detector, you get what you pay for. Forget about the Cobra, it's junk. The Passport 8500 or 9500 series is the one to get, anywhere from $310 to $500. I have two 8500 series (one for each car) and they are great. They have long range without the false alarms plagued by other cheap brands.

I have owned many radar detectors since 1978 and the Passport is the best.

I really like the whistler radar detectors. I got one from my brother in 1995 and it died in 2008 only because it was on the sun visor and my wife busted the power outlet.

Since it was going crazy with false alarms, but still catching valid ones, I went with whistler again. I got the Whistler Fuzion for the Camry and a Whistler Pro 3450 for the Camaro.

Radar is not the issue this days. Lidar is the issue. a detector will only tell you when you are getting a ticket. look into the ZR4 shifter to accompany the 8500 or 9500 Passports. or go big and get the 9500ci.

The ZR4 can also be used as a stand alone, but is better as a package.

Canada United States Law varies from state to state, but detectors are generally legal in private vehicles under the Communications Act of 1934[20] and illegal in commercial vehicles by DOT regulation (49 CFR 392.71). Exceptions: Wikipedia

Im in Manitoba but moving to BC in a couple months! That means road trip through ALL the legal provinces!

and yea in the US its legal except virginia, and washington, dc

but that doesnt include radar jammers and scramblers

I got the passport solo s2 and I love it. I also picked up the Escort Redline but so far its being a pain in the butt. Goes off every second. Its too powerful.
