Paint brake calipers or get covers?
I really want red calipers on my white camaro, a shop is charging me $200 to do all four but a friend recommended I should just buy caliper covers which also cost about $200. I'm kinda torn as to which way to go, what are your opinions?
And I know I can just paint them myself for way cheaper but I rather not even attempt it |

IMHO covers looks cheap and cheesy. Paint them or send the to a powder coater. Mike the powder coater does them for a reasonable price and they would most likely last a lot longer than painted ones.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say Plastidip them.
I did mine in red and they've held up pretty well. That way, you can see how you would like them painted. Worst case it's $6 blown.

We used this on my wife's Z28...
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/poi-42809/overview/ Looks great, cheap, easy to use, and pretty tough. After several AutoX events, still looks like the day we put it on.... Yes, she uses the shit out of her brakes, they get HOT.....she drives like a crazy person on the track....lol |

The V6 calipers don't look good painted. They're just too small... Making them stand out just makes them look even smaller. I'd get the covers just because it's a V6. Unless you want to spend a ton of money on upgrading to brembos, wilwoods, or something similar.

Did you remove the calipers completely to paint them? |

However, popping off the calipers isn't that hard and would make painting way easier....Next time I do it, I will just remove the calipers/pads |

Here is a link I followed to paint my calipers. They shine bright and easy to clean. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=348209

I agree with Tommy the Cat. Since you have a v6 the best bet is to probably get he covers. I know yes they don't compare to the look of actual painted calipers. But since the v6 brakes are smaller than the SS or other brands of brakes I would say it's not really worth it. Unless you want brembo or... So on. But the stock brakes stop the v6 just enough unless you plan on more power. If you do paint them they may look dinky. I saw a silverado in a parking lot with huge 22 or 24 inch rims and had these tiny dark red brake calipers. I chose the covers for that reason. I paid $400 for all four, for that price...To me it had to be WORTH IT!!! What you could do is just have them paint just one and see then.

I painted mine, took about 8 hours to do all of them, but definitely worth it.
Used duplicolor paint kit from Pepboys. |
