Rear End Question
Hey guys. This is my first post on the forum, but I have been reading the LS3 powertrain section for a while now and I was curious to what the gear ratio ofthe rear end of the SS trim? Does it change from the LS3 to the L99?

3.27 for auto, 3.45 for manual.

Somebody help me out here, as I'm not understanding something. If the manual SS is slightly lighter than the auto, has quicker gears than the auto, and has 20+ more horsepower than the auto, why is the auto slightly quicker to 60mph?
I know the manual catches up in the 1/4 mile time with a higher trap speed, but I'm kind of perplexed as to why it's not quicker than the auto. |

Ok, I see. So just for the sake of enlightenment, what are the other 2/3 of the gearing formula (I assume one of them is the actual transmission itself)? |

Plus it's probably easier to lauch the automatic with less wheelspin.

Oh, gear ratio. I wasn't sure where a first time poster was going with a rear end question thread. Looks like you're covered, and welcome to the site additional Camaro_Psycho!

So......Is anyone else considering a gear ratio change?
What else is available for the 2010 Camaro? |

Here is a dumb question... Would a dealer put the 3.45 gear in a L99 if asked and still provide the full warranty?

No matter where you had the gear changed, it would be hard for a dealer to detect the difference. But with just the gear change you wouldn't get the full performance advantage. The speedo will be off a couple MPH. And, in these cars all the part throttle shift points are done by vehicle speed. Therefore, the shifts will be too early. On an A6 car a trans tune is necessary to maximize the benefits of a gear change.
