Can anyone help me install brakes?
Hey, I always see people here offering to help with various mods and such...
Is anyone willing to help me throw some new pads on my SS? There's a DIY floating around somewhere, and it looks super easy, I'm just terrified I'll get it dismantled and then not be able to put it back together, or do something wrong and they break (as opposed to brake, lol). The reasons I ask is because a) I'd really like to see exactly how it is done so I can do it next time versus just paying somebody, and b) my options for paying a shop may be limited because I want to provide the pads (I'll only use Hawks, for a lot of reasons). Beer or some dough not an issue... |

Last weekend I did a cold air intake and Technostalgia Camaro LED Sequential Taillights in my buddies car. He came up from Arlington, MA. I'm just west of Manchester. BTW, do you still have your polished wheels for sale? I remember you posting about them back in Feb? I pm'ed you about them.... |

If you don't mind coming to Manchester, NH area, I would be happy to help too. We can use my garage with lift and I have tools.

We can do them this weekend if you have time. Brake pads aren't very hard and take more time getting the wheel off. If a member closer to you can't help just pm me a d we can hook up.

I don't have the SS brakes, but my buddy in RI did them on his and he said they were super easy as well. Like Charlie said, getting the car up on jackes and taking the wheels off takes more time than actually doing the brakes themselves. Do the calipers even have to come off to change the pads?

Thanks guys!
Manchester would be fine, I go up to Norm's Detailing there occasionally anyway! I'm not sure where you are at chevy 3, but it would be great to see you again and I'm sure it would be worth the trip. To answer the other questions- I think it makes sense to do all 4, I bought them already. The stockers are in there now, but I wanted Hawks because they were great on my GTO (less dust, etc). My understanding is you do NOT take the calipers off. I also read that you didn't need to do the rotors? So I didn't plan to, but I will if I should. Advice? Oh, and about my polished wheels. I didn't realize I forgot to reply. I am planning to swap my wheels, and had purchased some new ones, but got jerked around on the widths of the rears and ended up cancelling. I am still trying to make a change and will get rid of mine. |
