^, yeah...true that..., quicker VS faster, Ali VS Frazier...turn the tables on conditions,...it's a potential coin toss either way based on weather and road conditions. Like the NFL, any given team can win on Sunday. Best part is, they are both Chevy!

Agree completely! The Z/28 is for hardcore track guys with none of the creature features, because they're not needed on a track and they only add weight, and the ZL1 "has it all" be it track days or everyday driving in complete comfort. At Nurburgring on the straight (end of track) the Z/28 got up to around 168 mph and the ZL1 topped out at around 172/3 mph! |

The ZL1 was for drag racing, the Z28 was for road course. Both are upgrades of the SS.

The way I see the ZL1 is that it was intended to eclipse the non-1LE SS in virtually every category.
The Z/28 > SS intentionally in only one, with being better at anything else almost being incidental. Norm |

I thought the mag suspension was designed specifically for the track. Anyway, it seems to do both very very well, and in absolute comfort! I remember reading an article mustang vs ZL1, the conclusion was; the mustang takes a lot of work and you need to take a shower afterwards. The ZL1 is fun, carefree and easy to drive. You don't even work up a sweat. It's made to go fast with ease. I think that was an article in Motor-trend. |

I love the way a 1le drives but its acceration is so much worse that a gt500 I can't buy it being slower.

I believe the Shelby used was a Base model, which 'splains plenty when on a road course.
Of course the ZL1 was "as ALL are equipped"...which clearly 'splains the true intent of the ZL1 vs. GT500: one mechanical version for all-purpose Grand Touring. You don't have to shop the Option List to get an all-'round performer, as opposed to the One Trick Pony Shelby in Base form... For GT500 vs. 1LE, refer to the Ford-dreaded and -maligned last Lightning Lap...and that 500 had all the handling components extant... |
