Will a Metco driveshaft loop fit a ZL1 automatic transmission?
Just wanted to see if one of the bolt in Metco driveshaft loops fits the ZL1 automatic. Thanks.

called Metco and they did not know but they did ask me to send them a pic of the tranny crossmember. I should shoot them a link of the car underside video.

I see there are other brands that claim to be bolt on also. I did not contact Lingenfelter as they probably know what fits.

Response from Metco:
"Hey Dan… We have not yet confirmed the fitment of our loop on the ZL1 with the automatic transmission. Our understanding is that the loop will bolt to your car’s crossmember just like it does in the L99 Camaro application, but the added length of your 6L90E transmission may affect the position of the hoop relative to the front u-joint." I figured with a Jannetty "should bolt on" and a Metco "Our understanding" chances are it would so I went ahead and purchased it for the automatic. No such luck. The "T" brackets do not fit properly in the aluminum transmission crossmember. The ZL1 must use a different crossmember. The main bracket also hits the exhaust. New brackets will have to be built to have any chance of it working. Last edited by Trackman; 03-23-2013 at 09:09 PM. |

The brackets are suppose to mount square but they interfere with the aluminum crossmember. I will built a couple of brackets that will attach the 3 pieces together as seen in pic 3. This will also raise the "Metco" logo bracket just enough that it "should" miss the exhaust.

I suspected there would be an interference. Thanks for the post

With all the crossing of common parts from the Camaro and I looked at mine quick, it looked to be the same, I really didn't think there was a difference.

I'll weld a couple of ears on the Metco bracket to extend to my new mounting points and I'll be good to go. Some internet sellers are saying this will fit. It will not on the 6l90. |

Here is the bracket I designed and had laser cut to make the Metco loop work with the 6L90 transmission. I had to remove a couple of washers that were shown in a picture to get proper clearance for final assembly. The loop is only 1/8 of an inch away from the exhaust but does clear. Ultimately Metco should build a new bracket system for the ZL1 but I suspect with only a handful of ZL1's wanting a drive shaft safety loop that there will not be enough call to build one specific for it.
