i thought the windshield had to be coated with some "special material" or something for it to work properly?

I have an after market one I got off of eBay and can say you don't need the windscreen replaced but you either apply their reflective film or accept that fact that in some lighting conditions you will not be able to see it, so far that has been pretty much direct front sunlight.

The one I got only has speed and an over-speed warning (waste of space) and is GPS based. It acquires a Sat in just seconds and then you get speed.

This was under $200, there are some very expensive units that will tie in to all kinds of things but not sure if there is one for the 2010 Camaro yet.

Thanks wildclay for clearing that up for me. i started looking one up and ebay and noticed that there were alot of listings for corvette and sts huds. maybe we can mod our dash and insert one of those in there?

this description is from an ebay listing that i found:
"COMES WITH FULL STEP BY STEP COLOR INSTALL MANUAL
ONLY 6 WIRES NEED TO BE TIED INTO THE BACK OF YOU SPEEDOMETER CONNECTORS USING WIRE TAPS FROM MY WIRING HARNESS"

hopefully someone for the corvette or sts forums and people who've seen the back of the camaro's speedometer can help us out with this.

I'd want a HUD to display a target acquisition display with optional audible target locking beeps. Then I could flip a switch on my shifter and press a button and hear a satisfying WOOSH and BOOM. Just saying...

Here is the one I got:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GPS-R...Q5fCarQ5fParts

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GPS-R...Q5fCarQ5fParts

I would be very very wary of any unit that requires any connections to your car exdcept for power. Tapping things these days is not always easy and can actually damage things.

To jury rig a STS or G8 or Grand Prix, or Vette HUD in to the Camaro would likely be next to impossible to do well or at all.

If you get a more complex HUD with things list engine temp, boost, rpm, and otehr status from the car then I would suggest an aftermarket place that both sells and installs them, as well as deals with any warranty issue if they smoke your car electronics.

I have looked long and hard for one I could somehow plug in to the Camaro and none of them a plug and play, so you basically have two options, super simple, GPS based speed and direction or super complex - tapping in to your cars various sensors/senders and/or computer(s).

If someone finds one that will plug into the GM wiring harness somewhere, like the diagnostic port, and give all kinds of goodies that would be great, please pass on the info!

You don't need a special windshield for this. I think people think this b/c the C5 Corvettes with HUD (Z06s at first) had a different windshield. It did have a coating on it. But it was different primarily for weight.

Defi sells the VSD which by itself projects a good amount of data, but if you buy more sensors and other stuff it can project more...
