Tilt/telescoping steering wheel lever broke

Yesterday going down the road. Just fell and smashed my knee and isn't connected to anything. It hangs in front of the brake pedal now. It's a 14 ss with 8k miles. Wheel has been locked in place and not moved since the day I bought it. Is it save to drive? The wheel isn't moving but what if it randomly starts telescoping or locks in place while going down the road? What should I do? I'm pretty upset. It's less then a year old and already had multiple issues.

Yes,

Just be careful. If the wheel is not moving up and down then the lever is just broke.

Depending on how far away the dealer is from you, and if you can go at a time where there isn't a ton of traffic (not during rush hour) I can't imagine you would have a hard time driving it to the dealership. Try driving around your neighborhood a few times and see how it holds up during that.

drive it, its likely just the lever that broke and the locking mechanism is still in place... but even if it did move, there's not that much adjustability on these wheels, 2" of telescoping isn't going to make it undrivable.

It's fine...mine did the same thing. Trouble is there is a complete assembly that has to be replaced and mine was canx. the day after it was ordered ...by GM. Mine was fixed without changing the assembly.....gotta get creative. You can pull the lever out....it is just floating around in there.

Happened to me too. The wheel is still tight but the lever just hangs loose. I called the dealer and they claim they have never heard of the issue.

My question is does someone know how to fix it without taking it to the dealer?

How long did it take to fix it?

This. 1st step: CALL YOUR DEALER and ask them how to handle it.

Yep, call the dealer. I would think the wheel would be locked in the position it was in when lever broke. Start the car and grab the wheel and see if you have any movement and then decide whether or not to have it towed.
