You can't go wrong with a GT500 though.

It's not so much about supporting GM, as it is about the money to be lost by everyone that has GM stocks and bonds from before the "bankruptcy" filing. Those people are likely to be royally screwed.

Personally, I'd likely be happy with any muscle car. I've been eyeing the Challengers, Mustangs, and Camaros. But I'm a Chevy guy. I've had three 3nd gen Camaros in the past, and I really like this car.

Nice to see it back again.
The only reason I don't own one of each is $$$$$$, and garage space.

anyways theyre forged. The LS3 rods from what ive read are powdered metal so theyre not the same from what i gather.

Im pretty sure they are both the same basic design...forged powdered metal....with a cracked cap.
Yes the cracked cap helps it not walk...but the beam itself is not stronger than a traditional forged rod.

Owned an '08 GT500, drove a '10 GT500 to compare because all the Mustang lovers here said it was so much better, it wasn't. I have not driven an '11. I have had the pleasure of getting to use a Ford GT for a weekend. I put a few hundred miles on it and had the opportunity to drive it on other occasions as well. Now that was an unbelievable car. So with that being said and having had the opportunity to drive truly the BEST Ford performance vehicle out there, I can say, they should have done a better job on the rear end in the GT500. You should not HAVE to invest in control arms, springs and assorted other goodies to enjoy that car. I am not comparing the GT to the GT500, however a company that knows performance like Ford does, should have done better. That is all I am saying.

It does suck that if you bought stocks and/or bonds before bankruptcy from GM they are pretty much worthless now. :(

The stockholders did get crapped all over.

As much as I love the Camaro, with the wife complaining about supporting GM, I may be driving the GT500 next spring instead.

just buy a camaro and supercharge it... you will save $10-$15,000 and be faster that the GT500 and im so tired of the camaro ss getting campared the the GT 500 it is supercharged and 20k more 426HP compaired to 540HP SS=GT GT500=Z28 when it comes out
and another thing GT 500 12.8 1/4 mile Camaro SS 12.9 1/4 mile why pay 15k-20k more for a .1 of a second and 29ft

If you believe the 12.8 time is a true show of the GT500 potential you probably shouldn't even be driving a SS or GT.

The 2010 GT500 has went 11.9s bone stock.

The reason why they compare the GT500 to the SS is because they are the top factory trims of each car. If the mythical Z28 comes out then it will be fair to compare the Z28 to the GT500. Again, that is IF the Z28 comes out, there has not been any offical confirmation that they are even going to produce it. So for now, when your comparison requirements are top factory trims..then a SS/SRT/GT500 comparison is fair. Screaming and throwing a temper tantrum that they should compare the GT and R/T models of the other two is stupid if the test is on the top available car of each breed. It merely sounds like a desperate attempt to change the test to suit your ends, not an unbiased end.

Also, again..the ONLY reason why the GT500 only beat the SS by a tenth of a second was due to traction issues. The cars are no where near equal at all.

Also, with the GT500 you get the factory warranty, even if you select the more powerful blower and have it installed by your dealer. If you buy a blower for your Camaro then you essentially have voided your engine warranty.

Bottom line is the Camaro SS shouldn't be comared to the GT500 and any attempt at comparing them only makes the GT500 look bad IMO...so if you are a Ford fan..don't stoop down to comparing the GT 500 to the SS....as much as I love my SS...it is not in the same class of car,but it is close...which is a compliment to the SS...
But anyone who thinks with like drivers that the SS can run with the GT500 is delusional. It just will not happen.
And for Qbert..if you had bad wheel hop with the stick axle go forbid you drive the IRS Terminator...you likely weren't running a proper tire pressure for the job and were not driving the car properly..the best tire pressure for launching is not the best tire pressure for fuel economy/tire wear...jmo I guarantee you I could get a GT500 to launch without hopping...and still run a good number..and I suck at driving

But since we are comparing..here is my ranking of the modern "Muscle Cars"taking into consideration stock performance, modability and "bang for the buck"....
1)Terminator(2003/2004 Mustang Cobra)...undisputible King for the weekend warrior do it yourself HP junkie..hands down! End of story.
2) 5th Gen Camaro SS
3) GT500
4) 2009+ Challenger SRT8

All great Cars! Gotta love American Muscle!
As for the GT500 in particular...many Terminator fans who salivated over it when it was a rumor were pretty dissapointed..it is a BA car...but it had VERY BIG shoes to fill...

This is what the thread is about....

Stay on topic.

There are so many GT500 vs Camaro threads out there that have had this argument over and over again....

leave it out of this thread.
