"Due to the anticipated high volume of part orders the first month after the safety recall is released, we expect it could take up to 3-4 weeks to get parts to dealers after the orders have been received."

This line from the recall made me lol. Judging from the feelings of most owners here, the volume of orders may not be that high.

holy crap did I read that right, they are going to cheap out by removing the key from our existing fob and just giving us a new key, leaving the fog with a big empty spot where the key used to be?

jeez..

I still think having a fob that has the old key taken out is BS, I'm anal about my stuff and this is unacceptable IMO..

If they were replacing both, I would go ahead and get it done. This is the news I was waiting for, I was really hoping they wouldn't cheap out on this, and that's what they are doing, and I really find this more unacceptable for those buying a brand new Camaro..

Way to step up and make it right GM..

I'm really out on getting it done now..

Well for us who can't get our car off the lot, again I would be fine with the toilet seat. If you have any kind design skill or contact the guys here that sell the badges. I bet 20 minutes on a CNC machine could whip up a pretty cool fob to replace all the guts into

I know the feeling Darwood. I agreed to the deal a week ago Thursday, planned to pick it up on 6/19. Dealer called and said no go. I paid for it, have the DMV forms filed, but still no. The only stopping me from really going nuts on them and GM is I have too much stuff to do at home to drive it anyway (and enjoy it). I was told yesterday, a new fob and key is on the way for mine and should be there on Monday/Tuesday. Beyond next week, and they will refund my money.

It would probably have to be made of plastic, metal may reduce the range of the fob.
Anyway those that are all up in arms about not getting a new fob need to consider that with 500,000 cars that means they would have to have 1,000,000 fobs available to replace them with. Can you imagine the wait then not to mention it would probably cost about $20,000,000 more for the recall, and that would be if GM could get the fobs for $10 each.

I don't see why the dealers can't deliver the vehicles and let us come back in for the recall. It's not like a thousand more Camaros out on the road waiting on the recall is going to cause a big problem. Just let us sign a waiver and drive. Holding us in limbo for 3-4 weeks is nuts.

It's all for insurance and lawsuit and safety reasons. If they release a car that has a safety issue, they could be tried in court for negligence.

I don't care what it cost them, maybe they should have done better R&D, to half ass it at our expense is still BS..

Spot on about the R&D. Look what happened to the 11 and 12 convertibles.

And here i was about to close a deal on a new camaro, with cool keys and all. If i close the deal i will have to wait until who knows when to drive the car and get my grampa's car keys instead of the blade style fob/key. Isn't that great!

I'm reminded of a recall I had performed on an 86 Sable station wagon. In the back it had a tumble seat that when not in use was also a storage area. The storage area had a latch to keep it closed. It was deemed a safety issue cause you could lock a very small child in the area. The solution? Basically make it so it didn't latch anymore i.e. break the latch. The door to the storage area never laid flat again. It was always slightly ajar. Ever since them I've equated recalls to breaking things. Now we get broken key fobs.
