The T-tops are a dead giveaway that this is false information. They just aren't likely with the latest safety regs.
Maybe he was being hopeful or just repeating something he over heard. By the way, GM shut down it's conference center there so these may be GM trained people but I don't think they are GM employees, just representatives of GM. Kind of like the spokes people at the auto shows.

You are exactly correct, but the regs don't count the T-tops as a convertible they consider them the same as a coupe. So by your own words it's as safe as a convertible but must meet the coupe standard.

In that sense, how come the targa top on the corvettes and the glass roof on the mustang meet the coupe standards? Safety regulations suck
