'15 SS Brake Question
I am considering replacing my brake pads not because they need it but because my car (25K Miles) squeals every time I come to a stop and the pads I currently have shed brake dust like a white kitten on a brand new black leather couch.
Here are my questions: 1. Are there pads out there that don't squeal when coming to a stop? 2. Are there pads out there that reduce the amount of brake dust that is created? 3. Are there pad out there that don't have the skates on them? My new black 20" MRR228's are horrible to clean because I cant get my hand between the wheel and the skates..... Let me know your thoughts love my new SIM Convertible 15 RS\SS just wanting to get some of the quirky issues worked out so I can enjoy it even more.... THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR THE FEEDBACK!! |

Yes yes and yes. You can break the roller skates off your current ones. Lighter dusting pads don't have same repeatable brake performance a heavier duster has. Goodluck

Found some Carbon\Ceramic Powerstop pads but it looks like all of the reasonably priced pads have skates on them.....
What is the down side to taking a cutoff wheel and removing the skates from the new pads? I know that this is a dumb question but what are the skates even for? |

Found the reason for the skates...did a little searching on here to find that the skates are GMs failed attempt at reducing brake noise.....
Think I will wait until they arrive and take a cut off wheel to them if they are there when they get here. |
