Searching for the best wide tire combo for ride and look

Guys,
I’ve been trying to find the ideal tire size. (then have wheels made to work with them)
Wide 20s are ok, but not a lot of departure from stock.
22s don’t seem to come tall tall enough (as well as wide enough) to have an acceptable sidewall height. (unless you go with ultra expensive Dunlop runflats)

Pilot Sport PS2 come in the below sizes which seem to be a good balance between look and acceptable sidewall height.

285/30ZR21 apx 27.8 tall and mount it on a 21 x 10
305/30ZR21 apx 28.2 and mount it on a 21 x 11.5

Thoughts?

personally, for me to buy a set of wheels and tires, and not have to buy new tires on a regular basis, I would be looking at a set where all 4 are the same size. thats me 2 cents.

When I go aftermarket wheels, I'm going to go with 21"s and those Michelins. I didn't notice the 285/30 in that tire...I had planned on the 265/35 for the front with the 305's out back. I think the 21" is the ideal wheel size/sidewall height for this car. I also think 305 is plenty wide...it's not 315, but close enough. The only drawback is that the 21" tires are nearly twice the price of 20/22's...

for what its worth, my goal is 285/40 20" at all 4 corners.

its slightly taller than stock. I figure when I get a little bit of lowering to the suspension it should fill the well nicely.

I would not go 21x10 or a 285 up front. just my 2c.

275/40-20, on 9.5x20 wheels front & 315/35-20, on 11x20 wheels rear maintains the stock ride height. side wall = ride comfort

20's help keep your tire cost down in the long run. You have to figure on buying 2-5 sets of tires at least over the life of the car. 21inch tires are really expensive and very limited on sizes.

That way when you lower your car................and you will, your not starting with a lower frame height due to a smaller diameter wheel/tire set up. Keeps you from dragging your chin!

any rationale for that? 21" is a GM available rim size.
Pedders has a car running 305 all the way around and seem to be doing pretty well with it.

The reason most people do not go with 21" wheels is because 21" tires cost a lot more than 22s or 20s. Price check them and see for yourself. Yes, 22s cost less than 21s when it comes to tires.

Perhaps it was a bad assumption where I figured the cost of 21s would be in between that of 20s and 22s.
I’ve put in a couple inquiries to a couple wheel vendors.
I take it your vendors charge more for the lower volume 21 inch wheels that the higher volume but larger 22s??

I spoke to Pete from Pedders at the Camaro Nationals at length. He had his car there. The 305s all round seem to fit nice (although they are 19s).
Still for my application, I like the look of a larger rear tire, so the 285 front seems perfect to me. I'd do a 315 on a 21 is anyone made one. But I suppose a 305 will do nicly, especially if I make the rear rim wider by good margin.

21" tires have came down in price. I think 22" would be a nice clean look if your in it for the look's and 20" would be the best for performance.

Wheel-wise, 21s usually cost the same as 22s. They are both cut from the same forging blank. Just the tires cost more, because 21" is an uncommon size and tire manufacturers do not move a lot of them in that size.
