Horse Power is Torque applied by speed and distance. You take a two cars that weigh the same have similar tires and gearing and race them to 60 or in the 1/4 mile the one with more TQ will generally win.

exactly - Torque wins races.

Torque is a unit of force. You can have force without movement. Once you use that force to displace (move) an object you have work. Work over time is measured as horsepower (among other things). You need force to move a car down the track, but the act of moving it down the track is work over time...horsepower.

Torque wins races. Period. Unless you're running on an airstrip.
This.

Okay, let's break a drag race into its components. You are trying to get your car (weight) to move 1/4 mile (distance) as fast as possible (time). That takes horsepower. You can make as much torque as you want, but if it doesn't move anything or moves it slowly then you lose.

Well yes and no. The engine is one part of the drive train and with no torque, it's hard to make hp Conversely, torque multipliers like a high numeric rear end can assist if the car makes comparatively little torque. But at brass tacks level, it takes torque to create horsepower.

Like anything else, peak numbers are deceptive. We live 'under the curve' in real life, and your gear splits and rear end ratio have a lot to say about how quickly you're going down that 1/4 mile too. 5 Gen Camaros are heavy. They need torque down low to get that freight motivated

What's better than torque? Torque multiplication! Ooooh yeah I really think they should've made 3.70 gears stock on the auto. The car drives soooo much better with them. These cars are too damn heavy for their own good. They neeeeed TQ

Torque is force on a lever. HP is force on a lever over time (per second). This is the reason for 5252 and rpm when calculating HP, to calculate torque over time.

That said give me more torque because it will give me more HP.

Not so much arbitrary... there is a formula to calculate it: HP=(RPM * T) / 5252

HP is a function of RPM, Torque, and Time in math terms.

So when you say torque down lw do you mean ar a particular rpm? If so, you are implying movement. At that point it is no longer just a function of torque. I can also calculate hp. At a given rpm any increase in torque will yield an increase in hp, as long as rpm I greater than 0. The rest of what you say is ther point I was making. Pat sayings like torque wins races are bs. It takes a lot more than a high torque number at some arbitrary rpm. Ir is the average hp over the entire run.
