Maybe we can propose a new rule to allow tracks to stay open to at least 45* being that is where most track compounds are effective to. Helps extend racing seasons, makes racers happier, and it builds confidence in the racers knowing that your not gonna shut them down after 2.5 hours of racing just Bc its 50*.

This is why I have never seen less than 2500 DA at my closest track for a test and tune. They will move test and tune from night to during the day at the beginning of Nov then will be closed all the way to the end of Feb where it will again be during the day and that's IF they don't close for temp/weather. Most of if not all of Nov, Feb and March gets closed while Dec, Jan are always closed.

This Friday will be a great test for my local track. Sunny Thursday and Friday with a high of 48, let's see if they open?? It's set up to have some decent -300 to -500 DA if they will just run.
They posted on their site last week in Bold letters WE WILL BE OPEN THIS WEEKEND then in tiny letters weather permitting. Now granted this past weekend was an ice storm but this weekend looks good!

It's an insurance thing.......................up here in the Great White North the issue is dew point......................track shuts down if dew point is too high. No idea what the mark is.

I have run at Kansas International in the 40's last year. Hoping to do it again next week

I remember one year we ran in the IHRA Division finals at Cordova, IL and had to scrape frost off the windshield of the car. Traction sucked until the track warmed up, but we ran in the low 9's that year. Granted that was a big tire drag car on slicks.

Well as usual our local track will not open this Friday. Highs are suppose to be 48*. Several people called the track to confirm whether or not they would open, their response exactly was "if the TEMP just hits 55 then we WONT open. If it hits 57-60 we will open. Then said that their prep wouldn't hook under 50*? IM not a track prep expert but I find this very hard to believe. I've raced at tracks in 40* weather and had zero issues spinning. Never was dew point mentioned, only Temperature. Looks like another week to wait!

This is really funny. Here in the Salt Lake City area we have Miller Motorsports Park where each winter they have a series called WinterCross. The track could be dry and warm or snow packed depending on the weather. Personally I don't even try to run in them if the track has snow on it as I have summer-only tires. But we definitely run when temps are low. Traction is decreased obviously but it's "Sauce for the goose, Mr Saavik".
