Asking military people

Hi I live in the dorm on base, last week they have the contractors come in on their routine, to cut grass on base. Well today I was washing my car, and i notice my whole driver side of my car have alot of fine rock chipped, and my whole windows on my driver side have alot of rock chipped on it too. What should i do?

Brother you can fill out a CHIT about it though will probably be more trouble for you than you'd desire. Pay your deductible is unfortunately the most reasonable outcome.

Thank you for your service Brother.

I'm not going to do that, its the contractor fault. they have to pay for it.

Unfortunately most contracted work on military installations and or bases(even medical procedures) are exempt from civil law suits is why I said CHIT. However maybe things have changed, let me know how things go for you sir. It may be their fault however you are on a federal military installation. Good luck Brother.

If you park out side during winter you have to be carful also. The plows will just run right over cars and snowblowers will shoot all sorts of rocks and ice at it.

Spoone,

Go to your Staff Judge Advocate's office, they should be able to help you.

That is my route. The first thing you need to do is call the MP's and have a report filed. Once you have it on file, you can go to JAG.

I ran the service contracts on my base in the AF; not sure what branch you're in but its probably the same thing.
You should have called SFS/MP's and filed a report immediately. If its already been days you may be screwed. Its just like any other insurance type claim; you need a official report of the incident. It will then go to your base maintenance personnel and it will be presented to the contractor through the contracting officer. The contractor will have to make it right and usually cuts a check. It happened a lot in the 2 years I handled it. Bottom line, NEVER park along the grass. The big machines they use throw a ton of crap/gravel at high speed.

Actually I just saw you are in Goldsboro; I ran the contracts at Shady J before coming up to wright pat. Call SFS first and see if its not too late. If you need a POC in CE let me know. It'll get routed through them to the contracting officer.

Wrong. Go to your first sergeant. Tell him to contact the CE grounds maintenance person and look into filing against the contractor, and get the contracting squadron involved. The contractors are required to pay for damage caused by negligence.

Contacting the Staff Judge Advocate will get you exactly nowhere.

Oh, and I'm a contract administrator at an AF base, and one of my major contracts is Grounds Maintenance, so I DO know what I'm talking about.
