Can the Z/28 take on all three new Mustangs? s?

Ford has upped the game with their 2011 GT500 (550 HP) and recent photos show the forthcoming Camaro Z/28 in direct testing with the GT500 as the benchmark GM has set it's mark to achieve. Two days ago Ford released their information that they would be releasing a new 2012 Boss 302 in the spring of 2011 with a 440 HP version of their new 5.0 Coyote engine. Adjustable suspension and many upgraded pieces throughout the car make it sound like a really well designed car easily capable of over 1.0 g on the skidpad. What can't be very far behind is a new Mach1 Mustang. Ford is very clearly trying to dominate the performance sport coupe market and bring as many models as possible to give consumers as many choices as possible. The new 5.0 engine is clearly begging for a forced induction system and this is strictly a guess on my part, but I foresee a supercharged 5.0 Mach1 Mustang coming very soon. Ford will most likely use the new Z/28 as their benchmark. Can our Z/28 take on everything that Ford is going to throw at it in order to achieve higher monthly sales with more models?

I would assume the 2012 SS will get a bump in ponies. As well as a few tweaked suspension upgrades.

I believe SS is due for improvements around the time Z28 comes out. Maybe we'll see the first application of DI on the 6.2 or even an introduction of the Gen V. GM's not going to do nothing about this so long as Camaro's still selling in the quantities they need.

How many models of Mustang do we need, anyways, lol? I mean seriously. I can totally appreciate the nods to the past, be sheesh! It is kinda' cool seeing this though; I imagine this might be a taste of what it was like in the 60s and 70s. I wish I was there to enjoy that time. I dont' know - I think LS/LT, SS, and Z28 are good enough for Camaro. It'd be nice if we could get some more options, but we're only getting into the second model year, so I'm certainly not disappointed

Well now with Ford bring back the Boss 302, which was the Z28 original competitor, maybe the Camaro being test against the GT500 is not the Z28 but maybe the rebirth of the ZL1 COPO Camaro.

Interesting theory... If I thought there was any sort of remote chance that ZL1 would return, I'd totally be on board; that's not the case. I LOVE the idea though. I hope CAMARO remains successful for GM so maybe we can start getting more models like Ford's been releasing.

Short Answer: No

Jack of all trades, master of none applies here. If GM were wise they would make the Supercarged Camaro the ZL1 and the Z28 a light weight DI V8

This would be more in line with the Z28 heritage but to many people have voiced that they want this super beast Z28 Camaro, that in my opinion will be slinging to much extra weight in the nose to be a good road course racer.

While there's no arguing your point about weight over the nose, I'd encourage you to have a look at several member's SC'd SSs here. Considering there are SSs here that are running faster times at some tracks than stock Z06s, I'd say that there is potential; you just gotta' tune it there

Wouldn't a supercharged 5.0 Mach1 directly compete with the GT-500?

In looking at some information in another Section, there was a like 450 RWHP SC'd '11 5.0, so it might get close. I imagine with those cams will help with more power, too. GOD - how many Mustinks is Ford going to make?

Until the z28 gets a complete forged bottom end, I would say it doesn't compare to the gt500. It's to easy to make some insane hp numbers with the gt500 via sc and pulley swaps. Stock vs stock maybe
