a question about brake pads
I have a 2013 Camaro SS and went in to the dealer earlier today for my 30,000km service.
During the inspection, the engineers pointed out to me how worn down my brake pads were and suggested I changed then as soon as possible. I had a look at them and they were pretty worn down. So they tried to sell me brake pads but at what I thought was a ridiculous price. Front sets were $280 and the rear were $173. A total of about $450 for all four. My question is are they worth that price? I saw some HK brake pads for $50-$100. Are they as good as the OEM pads? I don't track my SS. I just use it as my daily driver so what I really need help with is a solid suggestion on which pads to get. I heard the ceramic ones are quiet good. But why do they vary in price? Thanks |

I bought these off ebay over a year ago. I use my car strictly for daily driving and I can't tell the difference from stock. The noticeable difference is no more dust.

I bought a set of ebc yellow stuff and they are awesome .
http://2m8sg52wwf7213m0b6lmv4ci.wpen...tuff-main2.jpg Car and Driver Magazine rates EBC Yellowstuff The USA largest consumer magazine reviewed a range of brake pads including Stock, Hawk and EBC Yellowstuff brake pads and the results were very interesting and gave the win to EBC Yellowstuff. Read here the full independent review with pictures of worn pads and drivers comments. This article gives EBC Brakes Yellowstuff brake pads the overall win. Car and Driver Review – Performance brake pads compared Hawk hps Hawk hp plus EBC-Yellowstuff Yellowstuff Brake Pad EBC Yellowstuff brake pads are ultra high friction brake pads for race, trackday and street use. Not only do they benefit from zero brake fade but they are also capable of heavy repeated use without suffering the effect of “fade-off”. Another great factor is the very minimal rotor damage this brake pad compound produces. Race drivers in particular love it because they are made from aramid fibre giving them superb stopping power. They are ideal for street and track driving as they don’t require a warm up but get even stronger under hard driving. Read more about EBC Yellowstuff Brake Pads here! |

I read if they are track pads, they make alot of noise. I need something for regular daily driving use. Something not squeaky and doesn't make a lot of brake dust.

I've heard ceramic can take slightly longer to warm up, meaning less effective when cold, but other than that just as good if not better than oem.

Unless you race or use your car very hard, either will be fine. Aftermarket probably better for more demanding situations

It's not about the cost really. I just wanted to know if aftermarket pads are better. This is my first car and as such, it's my first time for everything when it comes to doing something for my car. So I come here seeking you guys' advice. It's the best and most reliable advice I'll get. Thanks again guys. |

Hawk HPS are great street pads, especially for the price. They are not an ideal track pad though. Since you don't race the car, the HPS are a good choice.

I imagine that quote was the installed price, right? OEM pads typically are very good but you can get something as good or better for less if you do your research.
I have been buying Akebono pads. They are not race pads but known for ultra low brake dust. Haven't used hem on Camaro yet though. These EBC pads sound interesting, I will check them out. |
