honestly.... not trying to quell gm's sales, but unless you have strict emissions testing, just wait for the Longtube headers to come out. the gains from the shorties arent going to compare to longtubes for the same price.

I'll be staying away from longtubes myself ... emissions won't be fun ... I think the shorties will provide a decent gain w/ supporting mods ..

I'm going to make sure it's on my bill of sale so that I can show the cops if I get pulled over and they tell me I am running non original equipment on my car.

shorties won't move the location of the cats, so I don't know what cops would have a problem with.
LT's are definitely the way to go, but initially I'm sure they will be ~1200 for a set of them, which sux. it will take a year or two before affordable ~$500 headers are available if it follows LS1 4th gens. For that reason, I may take the factory shorty route and because factory 'headers' are just damn cool. I would expect them to make about 5-10rwhp over stock and LT's should make ~20-25rwhp. |

thanks for the replies guys. thats the reason im leading toward the shorties because ca is strict with emmisions but since i have 5 yrs till smog i could run longtubes. i just dont wanna have to keep switching em

Well over here in north Georgia we don't care too much about smog, and I've been running straight pipes on my 4th gen for a couple months now, nobody's said anything. But it took a ton of tuning to get the computer to shut up about the emissions.

Based on real world results from the Corvette community I'd pass on these. You'll be better off waiting for LG to work their magic.
Go visit the Corvette Forum and ask this question, you'll most likely get be told not towaste your time, effort and $$$. |

I'm not a car moron, but just wanted to clarify something (maybe others have the same question).
When you refer to shorties and long tubes, thats the difference in length between the engine exhaust value and the cat? Is that correct? Came to this conclusion because the longer the tube, the more the exhaust cools, and the slower the reaction that removes unwanted products from the exhaust. does that sound even close? |

This can get pretty long trying to explain the physics behind it. Long tubes will give you more power but are illegal in some areas like California.
I have no emissions where I live so I can do whatever. I never had a cop check out if I have headers so that's a little weird. Maybe if you get caught street racing.
