When is the best time to check the oil

i recently did a oil change and was curious when is the best time to check the oil level...immediatly, or wait 5 min for all the oil to settle...or wait even longer....

i make sure to add what is recommended or close. start it so the filter is completely full. Shut the car off.

then wait about 3-5 mins and check..

make sure you're on level ground

Warm engine, make sure you wait about 10 minutes after shutdown for the oil to drain back into the pan.

I like to check mine after an overnight set, before the first start of the day. Cleaner reading on the stick, and all of the oil is in the pan.

10 mins may not be enough time, sometimes I have had wait over 20 minutes for a proper oil level check. The LLT motors on the v6 have been known to get low or be overfilled bc we are reading it to soon, was guilty of it myself 2x and had to drain some oil out as I thought I was low

Simple, do it in the same location and same time period after shut down if you are really that worried about it. The hashmarks on the dipstick are engineered the way they are for a reason, that is the safe zone for oil level. The car, computer and gauges will not know or care if you are lower on the hashmarks than towards the top of the hashmarks.
