Anyone ever dealt with a speeding ticket here? Got one over the weekend for 19mph over the limit (officer was right on the other side of a speed limit change sign... Would it be possible to have the ticket dismissed if I take a defensive driving course? Clerk at the courthouse said I have to make an appearance to request this...but it's 2.5 hours away..any advice/ideas?

What road was it on?

I'm not sure on the process of getting it dropped, haven't had a ticket yet.

17, comming into warrenton. Was actually stopped in front of Walmart.

It's up to the judge really. But if you go in there with a certificate of completion for a driving course it'll probably help if not get it dismissed.

I considered that, but wasnt sure if i should do it before, or wait until i get the judges permission, so im not wasting time/ money doing this.

17 into Warrenton? I think that would be Fauquir County, and not Stafford. Unless you are talking about 17 right there where 95 crosses. I also am unaware of your answer. When i was 17, i took a class to clean my record of a speeding ticket in Spotsylvania county (next to Stafford), but i think that was manditory for drivers under a certain age. Sorry that i am of no help lol.

it's better to show the judge that you took the initiative to take the class on your own than to take it because he told you to.

I think he meant in Stafford heading towards 95. The speed limit drops to 45 right before the Wal-Mart.

x2 and didnt realize it. Spoke to a lawyer in stafford..probably wont fight it...lawyer said anytime you have a speeding violation withing 2.5-3 years of the new ticket- most times the judge wont even do anything about the ticket. Not to mention- its a 2.5 hour ride for me if i do- might just let this one goes..sucks though, because this one was an honest mistake.
