Did I cook my caliper dust boots?

I am replacing my front brake pads with new OEM pads. I found the piston dust boots were swollen up preventing the pads from sliding into place. I decided to rebuild the calipers rather than just replace the boots.

I have tracked the car and had the brakes pretty hot so I'm wondering if I just cooked the boots or maybe they were attacked by the pad lube I had been using.

Anyone had the same experience?

Those are cooked from the heat . I would go to the permatex website and see if they have any info about that stuff eating rubber . GL

I was sure it was a heat-related condition until I got them out. They are very gooey. If anything I would have expected them to be hardened and cracked.

I think you're onto something here. Dust boots just dry up and crack. It must be that lube. Some of the racing BBKs don't even come with boots, so it's not the end of the world, but when they're gone, you definitely need to bleed more often as the fluid will get contaminated much easier.
