Dome light dims when depressing brake pedal

If my dome light is on and I depress the brake it dims pretty significantly.

I have never had a car do this, esp a brand new one

Anyone elses car do this?

And the car was running, not just in the acc position

Someone else posted a couple months ago with the same phenomena with dome light dimming with the turn light. Unless your local dealer has seen this before, or there is GM bulletin about it, I really wouldn't worry about. Because what will happen is, the mechanic will have to tear your car apart to find the weak connection. Pressing the brake and needing the dome light on at the same time is kind of a rare combination of events. If you can't live with it, then take it in. A lot of these panels can only be removed and reinstalled a few times before the retainer clips start to break off, or weaken, or get bent. Plus, they never seem to go back together again the same way. I would rather not have my car taken apart unless it was absolutely necessary. But it is your car...

The technician should use a factory shop manual schematic, and identify the common ground point.

There is something like a ring terminal with paint under it.

Hey GM! Did you fix this one yet?

Total shot in the dark here, but...

I'd be concerned that there was a problem with the brake system causing too much power consumption, thereby causing the light to dim because of the load. I have no expertise to base this on, but, to me, dimming lights means that something else is sucking power.

Is this impossible?

My dome lights dim with brakes or turn signal - I think it is just power draw maybe? My Colorado does the same thing - I wouldn't be too worried about it unless it is almost making the lights go out.

at idle, esp these camaros cause they seem to idle low,.. an alternator hardly puts out enough amps to run the car let alone supply alot of current for big draw items. and todays ABS systems use very fast and high pressure pumps and electronics so im thinkinh that as soon as you hit hte brake peddel, the additional draw while sitting at idle is causing the dim. .02

I bumped this thread for a reason. So git your butts out to your cars and idle them and push the brake to see if the dome light dims.

Yes some but i have LED light in the dome so there not affected as bad as a incandescent light bulb, PQ you do realize that you have 4 tail lights back there that suck a lot of amp's from the battery ones you step on the brake pedal.

I don't think its that on your car.

Lights dim the same amount when the engine surges. Just wondering if it's related. Tails too.

Ok, caryy on. As long as it's normal I'm good.
