After re-reading the original post, I think that a Camaro will out-power a Corvette, but not all Corvettes. All the Camaro needs is 450 hp and it will have more power than a corvette. Based on current trends, the Camaro might get there before the end of the C6 run. It will never out perform any corvette of the same model year though. The very top Camaro's, equivelent in terms of line up as a GT500 Mustang, may hold their own against a base Corvette. That would make sense since they would both be about 45k.
A little perspective here on horsepower . . . a midsized car with 200 hp is considered to have good power and acceleration. Any car with more than 300 is worthy of some respect. 350 is definately respectable. 400 is double what is needed to have better than average acceleration. 450 is impressive. 500 is very impressive. 550 is way more than needed. 600 or more is for race cars and braging rights.

a base mustang gt comes with 300hp...do you really think gm is going to go above 400hp with the Camaro? I mean i know the goal is to be better than the competition, but this would be upping the ante a little too much if you ask me.

But the mustang is due for a redesign soon. And the challenger is likely comming out with 340 hp and 425 hp engines. Plus the Camaro is nearly promised to have class leading acceleration. That means that it will need over 380 hp (challenger is powerful but heavy).
