Mobil 1 0-30 vrs 5-30

0-30 container says it meets warr requirements, don't have any cold issues here in Fla. I know I can't change oil weight in my Mustang GT 5.0 because of the veriable cam timing, will it do any harm to use 0-30 in my LS motor?

You live in a hot environment, why are you considering 0W-30.

I would not run anything other than what the owners manual recommends...

How much better MPG? 0.002 mpg? It would be negligible. Not worth it for a trip like that.

You have an SS. I'm sure you didn't buy it for MPG. Stick with the recommended oil, buy top tier fuel, and you'll get 24+ mpg anyway. If the car breaks, and you still have warranty, then they can't deny a claim because you used the wrong weight oil in it.

Got to agree. only use Sunoco or shell 93 oct. Can't be that much diff in MPG. Got 26.5 MPG (76 MPH on cruze) up and back last time I went 2 yrs ago. I will just stick with 5-30.

I wouldn't use it if the car is under warranty but I don't think there would really be any problems mechanically. The "0" weight oil would flow a little better on a cold start and yet it would still be 30 at normal operating temps. I do something like this on my Harley - I use Mobil 1 15-50 instead of the Harley spec 20-50 and have not seen any problems.

Mobil AFEs have reduced Zinc & Phos, presumably to get the marginally lower cold flow. I have 0W-30 on my shelf but it won't be going in the Camaro.

If you are under warranty and all caught up in such things...use the recommended weight. (Does not have to be Mobil 1). Otherwise, in your climate, you could use 40wt if you wanted.

Lol, the advice on this thread looks like crazy group think.

0w-30 will not hurt anything. If you happened to have an engine issue, it won't be because of the oil, and there is no way GM tries to claim it. It is unlikely they do an oil analysis and, if they did, they couldn't tell the small difference. Oil breaks down over time and gets thinner; a 5w-30 would be like a thick 0w-20 after a few thousand miles.

OP, use it without worry.

crazy group think. LOL
Silly thread. OP, Ohio is north of you but no where near the north pole. 0W-30 is for extreme cold conditions. Gas mileage? Come on. Silly. If your concerned about MPG, just go slow, but having 18 wheelers speed by you will get old fast. Take a look at your owners manual under Selecting the Right Engine Oil. 5W-30.
