Live rear axle.. anyone miss it?

Many of you folks have owned previous Camaros that had a live rear axle. Miss it? Are you glad that the new one has IRS? Or does it not make a difference?

Please don't answer the poll if you have never actually owned a performance car with a live axle (eg. Mustang or previous Camaros). Truck experience doesn't count, because the suspension setup is different. And especially don't chime in if the only "knowledge" you have about live axles is what you were taught in Google Elementary.

Never owned something with a solid rear axle, but I love the way I can throw my car around with confidence

Wow! that's amazing. Are you really young. I love the solid axle ,but I'm a drag racer. I also miss the Big block motors. Wouldn't it be awesome of gm put a supercharged all aluminum 572 in the Z/28. Gives me chills just thinking about it.

I don't road race a car so I opt for the SRA setup. Drag racing is just my thing.

My 87 Camaro would loosen your fillings going over a bump.
My 98 and 02 were a little better and would only loosen some of your fillings.
My 10 SS is a much friendlier enviroment to be in. I have drag raced it with no wheel hop and it smooths out most bumps. i voted #2. They have been using IRS since, I think, 1962 in the Corvette.

Never had a fixed axle either. But my uncle in India had plenty of cars with fixed axle, and remember not enjoying the rides too much when we went over unpaved roads.

IRS FTW I guess....

The IRS is great for the road. Once we get over the hump of setting it up for high HP drag racing I am sure we will like it for that too.

The solid axle was a piece of crap for daily driving when set up for drag racing with the "old" leaf springs, but on a 1st Gen we swapped it to a Detroit Speed Quadra-Link to bring it up to new standards and it rides excellent. So it depends. Hard to compare apples and oranges unless you really have a targeted use - Drag, Road Race, Autocross, Street or "all of the above"

I think the IRS suspension is nice but I am a drag racer and the only way for me is a straight axle. They both have there pros and cons , it comes down to personal preferrence. But for you drag racers we are going to be finishing our straight axle prototype shortly, we will post pics. soon. Major wheelies for our 1st customer , cant wait!!

This is the first car that I have owned without the live axle and I love it. I don't miss it at all.
