Paint protection?

I'm just wondering what if anything everyone is doing to protect their paint? I used to get a silicon treatment that worked pretty good. The detailer says he has something even better but I don't know what it is. So I am looking for recommendations, opinions, etc.

What do you use to protect your paint?

Paint protection?

They do their best in the paint protection program, by giving the paint a new name and trying to help it go unnoticed. That's how IBM became BRM, which now hides out in between black and AGM and doesn't attract much attention to itself.

Great question OP...................I am having my stripes repainted (hood/nasty rock chip). I spoke with the shop manager about applying a clear bra for protection, after repaint. He said it was a horrible idea. Long term would F up the paint. Hard to remove, dulls paint etc...........I personally think the benefits (no chips) far outweigh the negatives. .....any thoughts?

the stuff looks good. I live in the rock chip capital of the world. I am surprised there is no dealer in my area.

Well, i must say that this is the first person I have heard of that says don't do it because it will mess up the paint. Typically people won't do it because it may be partially visible. In my opinion, rocks will F up the paint a lot worse than a clear bra would. I agree that the benefits far outweigh the negatives.

I am also getting the Xpel put on mine on Monday. Seen some of my guys gallery and can't even tell it's there. Supposedly it also repairs itself. 10 year warranty.

I have the XPEL ULTIMATE film, top of the line stuff and it has a 10 year warranty and is "self-healing". I put it over the front of the car and the lower rocker panels and above the side skirts...not cheap but worth it, especially to keep higher resale value.

This is just simply not true. If film is installed on new paint (after it cures) then 10 years later if the film is removed the paint underneath will be as perfect as the day the film was installed. It does not do anything to the paint at all. One thing to note is that there are many different films out there... some better than others. There are also some eBay companies selling clear vinyl as paint protection film. Clear vinyl will hurt your paint and does not offer any protection at all. But films such as Xpel, Suntek, Ventureshield and Avery Nano Fusion are perfectly safe and will protect the paint from damage. Paint protection film has been out for about 20 years now. If there were any issues the product would have left the market place long ago. Go to a car show and your hard pressed to find any high end cars without it... and they have much more expensive paint jobs.
