Crazy for wanting to get rid of my spare tire?

I was lucky enough to walk onto a lot and get pretty much the exact car that I would have ordered.....except I got the spare tire instead of the inflation kit.

The more I thought about it, I am thinking that I would rather have the inflation kit......I can't imagine hauling that doughnut out and putting it on with the other 3 20" tires, lol.

Anyone else rather have the kit (yeah, i know you v8'ers don't have a choice)?

Well, are the tires that we have "run flats?" If not, I probably would keep the spare tire. If you are out in the boonies and get a flat that won't be fixed by that can of floaming glue, you'll be happy to have the doughnut.

Glad I got the donut. Would hate to be stuck a long ways from civilization and realize all I had was a small compressor and some type of fix-a-flat substance. Any large puncture and you are out of luck. Of course there is always on star, but the cost and time for someone to get to you would not be pleasant.

Getting stuck in the boonies is not a big problem for me. Even though it is my daily driver, I only work 12 miles away and driving to and from work is about 90% of my driving.

In fact, it is very, very rare that I am more than 20 miles from my house. Family outings are done in the wire's Saturn Vue

I've been trying to add the spare tire to my order since June 10th. Several times I was told the order would be changed no problem. When I hit 3000, my order was still not showing the spare tire and now my dealer tells me it can't be changed. My TPW is this week and I should be getting my Camaro soon. If I have the inflator instead of the spare, I might be able to arrange a trade with you. PM me if that sounds like it might work.

I actually had another board member offer to buy/trade for it too but he would need shipping also and I am really trying to sell it locally to avoid shipping.

I am looking to trade for $100 and the inflation kit. I just got my car a little over a week ago and it is still new and untouched in the trunk.

I am surprised the dealership can't work something out for you.

I already needed my spare once for 5 days as it took that long to get a tire shipped in.

That is a consideration also (but less so for people like me who had to buy a winter set of tires anyways so I'll have the 2nd set if needed temporarily).

You know running without a spare tire, is like trying to walk on water!

i would rather have a spare. what if the puncture is something the inflation kit can't fix?

not only that, but a fried that runs a tire business tells me to never use the "fix a flat can stuff" he says it does not evenly coat the inside of the tire and that after its used the tire will never blalance correctly.

keep the spare

if you've ever had your tire ripped open by debris on the freeway at 2 am, then that spare is a no brainer.

I could see it as being a big bonus in that situation. No problem with that here though as I am never in that situation. 99% of my driving in the Camaro is in the daylight and within 20 miles of home.

In 38 years of driving I have only dropped the spare once and that was 1975.
I drive well over the annual average miles.
