2010 Camaro Wheel Locks Caution...

Greetings All,
I want to offer a word of caution to those of you that purchased the cheaper wheel locks from your local parts houses like Checker Auto and AutoZone. I was one of us that did just this and until now I figured I beat the system for 10 bucks. These 14mmX1.5 are threaded correctly BUT they bottom out on the long studs just before they tighten against the wheel. I like most (probably) figured they tightened against the wheel (sure looked like it) but they did not. One way to verify is jack up the vehicle until the wheel is off the ground, pull all your other four lug nuts loose and see if the wheel lock is securing the wheel. Mine were not. So I went and purchased the longer wheel locks from McGard (p/n 24210) for 30 bucks, problem solved.

cheers All,

Bill

Thanks Bill,
I also bought the wheel locks from Autozone, and until I read your post, didn't realize that my wheels were only being held on by 4 out of 5 lug nuts!
I'll be buying the correct ones today.
Thanks again,
Mike

I got GM Accessory p/n 92221880, 4 wheel locks but haven't put them on yet. GM normally uses McGard, so it may correlate to the 24210 McGard p/n. I dunno. It's 1- 7/16" tall from the seat to the tip. I heard the McGards were 2" long, so I'm not sure as the GM ones are shorter. Scored them off ebay for $15.95 shipped, so it was better than paying full price.

$72.48 to your door from GMpartsdirect.com. A bit pricey though.
