MPG for the Z28

Somebody please explain. How come adding a SC to the SS improves the fuel economy and how come the CTS-V which makes the same HP as an SS with a SC (~550 hp) only gives 11MPG?

Adding a supercharger to an SS does give worse fuel economy. Everyone who says that it increases their fuel economy are not using the EPA tests. to determine their overall MPG.

Z28 will have a gas guzzler tax.

Who said adding a SC improves mileage? I don't see how adding weight and parasitic loss to the engine is going to improve mileage. Tweaking the tune could do it, but the same would be true if done an a NA engine.

Just wanted to add...I own a 2010 CTS-V and mpg on hwy is 19.7 and around town is 15.2

There is no reason to believe that if the Z28 gets the LSA motor, fuel economy will be worse than that.

I really hope you guys get the LSA motor...it is an absolute blast to drive.

Clear. Then I think I'll pass on the Z. I need a daily driver. I'll just mod the hell out of the SS.

Thanks for the info 556. I was very curious what the real world MPG numbers are on the CTS-V for City and Highway. Just out curiosity, the highway mileage you obtained is based on what average cruising speed?

I don't even care, but I don't think it'll be worse than CTS-V. I'm a little suprised that mileage suffers as much as the EPA numbers state. I have seen many comments and statements that people have made about improvements in mileage, but I take them with a little grain of salt. With the bypass valves and more efficient SCs out there, I'd suspect there shouldn't be much of a loss if driving conservatively, but I can't comment either way.

I just know it's not going to sway my decision.

I don't think anybody looking to buy a Z/28 will care a whole a lot about MPG. I know I won't.

adding forced induction improves the fuel milage amost all the time... aslong as ur not in boost. when your in vaccume ur cars get the best milage, when ur in boost you dumping loads of air into the motor.

who really cares what the z28's milage is. you cant honestly be buying the car worrying about that. 556hp is not gona get u 30mpg.

MPG would be my last consideration when buying this car. HP and handling is my only focus.

what's your definition of "mod the hell out of?" because if you mean modifying the engine then expect worse gas mileage out of it over stock. . .

like others have said if you're buying this kind of car you aren't really worried too much on mileage.
