I'm going to bump this old thread for advice. My car is in what I consider terrible condition. I realized this when I saw a new black camaro all shined up on my dealers show room, and I remembered how good my car used to look.

Any advice on polishes? I am looking at buying the PC and I really like what I see in chemical guys, but I was wondering if anybody could attest to their validity? Thanks!

Griots garage third gen, optimum hyper compound/hyper spray, optimum microfiber cutting pad 5.5", LC flat pads 5.5" (orange and white), LC 5.5" backing plate. That is what I would start with if I had to do it all over again.

I haven't used chem guys but they don't have good polishes according to people I trust.

Thanks for the comprehensive list! I am going to see where I stand to order by this summer. I'm still a detailing newbie, so I may have some questions for you, but I can't drive around with trashed paint much longer.

Haven't used any of their compounds or polishes but they have very good detail spray, shampoos, and waxes. Jury is still out on the Jetseal but it's good so far. Some of their towels are pretty nice too. Just like any company, some of their products work very well while others not so well.

So I've been through your list about... 800 times just reading and looking at your suggestions. But I had a question.

In August, I will be moving to Wichita Falls to attend Midwester state and for the first time in 2 years of ownership, my car will be sitting outside. My paint is swirled, and far from perfect, but when things start getting dusty I don't want to start doing serious damage.

What is a good wax or sealant that is DURABLE? And I mean seriously durable.

Whatever you can suggest would help!

Thanks!

Listen to CD - if you want to get a flawless finish and SUPER durable, it's a simple 3 step process:
1. clay as you have above
2. Use a random orbital with a white pad and meguire's 205 Ultra finishing polish. ( If really swirled, Meg's 105 first with a orange pad)
3. Two coats of Collinite 845, 12 hours apart - the most durable sealant I know of.

Also, I need something for my dash. I have no idea why, but my dash is tacky to the touch and holds lint and dust like crazy. It never looks clean. What is wrong and what should I do?

I have been saving to buy a polisher and polishes this summer. It will probably be late summer because of classes, but I will definitely look into that collinite!

thee are many dash products - I like one that gets the dash clean looking, but does not gloss or look oily - it just looks NEW. Since your leather is not really leather, and is plastic encapsulated, the whole interior can be done with this too.
