we get no oil from Iran... Saudi Arabia pretty much has been increasing production to offset any dips from other countries (Libya). But Yes, the news does affect oil prices. But I wouldn't be so quick to rush and blame speculators. It's not like they get together and say "hey lets buy oil for MORE than we did yesterday, that'll be fun!!!" They buy futures assuming that they'll be able to turn around and make a profit off of it when the oil is actually produced and sold by the oil producers. If they pay too much in advance, they will lose money when they resell it a month or so later to the refineries etc. So they don't WANT to pay more than they have to.
But try to think of it in a linear fashion, the oil producers charge only what the speculators are willing to pay for it, the refiners/distributors pay only what they think consumers will be willing to pay for it (based on trends/supply etc). When consumers stop buying gasoline and oil based products prices do fall in time because there will be a glut in supply.

dumbest comment i heard is someone emailed a talk show a couple days ago and said:
'it's an election year so gas prices won't go high." such an insightful stinging political comment. oh wait , summer 2008...$4.09....

oh that was just a "scare tactic" from the outgoing president of course to warn the American people against voting for the "wrong" party. duh! (Note: I am not getting political, I'm making a joke about the stupid comment)

Oil prices are up across the world, the positive numbers on the job situation has fuel suppliers and gas stations anticipating an increased demand in fuel an thus higher prices for them (the gas stations and suppliers) to purchase has. As such they are trying to get money now in order to have cash on hand to make future purchases. End result we pay more at the pump.
