It's not the CAGS or skip shift. I am pretty sure that is around 2400 RPM or below. Above that and the gate shouldn't come in to play.
1st, make sure you are pushing the clutch in far enough and make sure you aren't letting it out too early. You might just be too fast. But if your technique is good, you should be going into 2nd without much effort.

I have driven stick for years in many different vehicles and this 1st to 2nd thing is something I have not seen before. Shifting 1st to 2nd when under hard acceleration needs a very positive movement and I have been caught out badly a couple of times.
Car has 1200 miles on it now and gearbox seems to be "loosening up" a bit - although I guess part of this could be me getting more used to it.

my tranny shifts very nice. Maybe yu are shifting too fast, but i shift really fast and chirp second with no problems. If its not you for sure, take it back to the dealer and tell them about it. I can understand someone making a mistake getting into 3rd, but not second. So my guess is its not you. Anyways just to make sure, go up to about 6k rpm and shift slowly and see if it still gives you a hard time. Then you know for sure to bring it back to the dealer

he said when he gets on it....skip shift only comes into play if your doing 21 or less mph so it's not that. Stock shifter? I was having trouble at the track going into 3rd while getting on it. Just have to treat it right. I also have an issue getting into 2nd with the Hurst shifter. I don't know if it's a tranny issue or not. But it sure is making me look dumb. I'm glad there are other DUMB people here. I'm changing out the hurst for another one next week.
