Honestly you will notice symptoms before it gets to a bad state.

For me it was a sudden change in exhaust tone, so wierd but it would last all of a few seconds and always thought maybe it was bad gas, a spark plug or something but it never threw a code and it didnt feel like a chain issue at the time meaning the ususal symptoms were not there

Honestly I spoke to ALOT of people and it seems that good chunk of owners have had their chains replaced, thise who hadnt were those with lower milage but getting close to that threshold milage

Well crap. I think if it pops a timing chain code I will replace it with another v-6 model. That is a sign that other things will follow.

You know the best part is I got an almost 10 year old honda fit that I take out when I don't want to get the camaro dirty or wet after a wax. The little honda needed a coil pack and tires in all the time I owned it. Why is it the silly cars last forever and the thing you love breaks down?

It's got to be some crazy law I am not aware of.

There is no threshold mileage, some have 120k on their camaro's with no issues.

I am curious about the tempatures of outside when timing chains go bad. I live in FL and have yet to hear of someone timing chain in FL going bad on forums. Maybe it is just a chance. I got a 2011 camaro v6 and feel like a ticking time bomb, but i love my car.

86K miles. 6 years. One more payment and she is all mine. I have had no issues to date. Over 170 passes on the 1/4 mile track, countless spirited parade laps at the local road course. I am planning to perform all the routine scheduled maintenance this spring. Plugs, hoses, belts, coolant, etc. It does use approx. 1/2 - 3/4 qt. of oil per oil change (every 5K miles). I get over 30 mpg on the highway when the cruise is set to 70 mph.

I understand........

My plan a couple months ago was to make this my year round driver, and order a 50th Anniversary Camaro soon.

Plans have changed. Priority obligations have become more important.

I will continue to drive my 5th Gen. Aiming for 200K miles.

I have my winter ride back, and will continue to store my Camaro for the salty winter months.

Good Luck with your decision on yours.

If I should ever see that dreaded cam code. I plan to buy the kit and do the install myself. 95% of all the work on my Camaro has been done by me, I will continue that trend as necessary.

Are you getting a ticking noise around 2200-2500RPM during acceleration?

When my motor spun the rod bearing I had just the softest rapid tick during acceleration in that rpm range.

If I were you I would change the oil and have a dealer do it. Tell them to Cut the oil filter and let you see it and see if there is any metal in it.
If it were me I would spend the 2-3 hours of labor cost and tell the dealer to drop the bottom end of the motor and see if there is any issues with the crank or bearings.
