Change my battery?

2016 2SS with 17k miles, no problems starting etc. Just thinking battery is 5 years old. Should I go ahead and change now, or wait until it's dead? Is there a way to tell beforehand that it is dying?

Keep it on a tender with a desulfurator mode. Will last a long time.

This is an excellent, full featured battery tender, and isn't even more expensive than the simple CTEK unit GM offers as an option with the Camaro: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003UANXCE

the original Delco in my 2005 GMC lasted over 14 years. I just replaced it two years ago. If it holds a charge and has plenty of cranking amps why replace.

I got one of the NOCO ones when it was on sale for Prime day. Bolted that bad boy up to the battery and just plug it in when necessary. Well worth the 30-ish bucks instead of a new 200$ battery!

I guess that's what I'm wondering. Battery seems fine. Do I replace now to head off a problem, or do I wait? I do have a jumpstarter. Sounds like maybe just wait.

With the tender I'm assuming only if there's a problem or if I'm not driving the car for a while? I do drive it at least twice a week except during the winter in which case it's once every 1-2 weeks.

Thanks everyone for your responses.

You can have it tested by a dealer or somewhere like Advance Auto parts. The handheld testers I've used at Chrysler and Volvo work well.

I paid $400 for the dealer to replace my 2016 V6 battery a couple of weeks ago. Best $400 I have spent in a while. Why worry about it? 4 plus years and you may or may not be good to go. Knowing that the battery is good, priceless.

The battery on Amazon is $190. I think the dealer charged $260. It is in a pain in the buttocks location in the trunk. Another $120 plus miscellaneous for the install. Still seem like a bargain to me. I can't believe anyone would risk being broken down over $400. I can now happily go on vacation with my wife to Burlington, VT without having to worry about a 4 year old battery. (Hopefully the run flats will be OK.)

Desulfurator mode chargers are no joke. Will bring a marginal battery back. Brought my 2017 Camaro battery from 60% to 90%.
