1LE at the 1/4 Track

Anyone taken their 1LE to the drags yet? If so post your times. It will be interesting to see if it is easier to get the stock 1LE into the 12s, than the SS.

I also am very interested if you get wheelhop with the stock 1LE suspension.

And a side note if you have owned an SS before, does the stock 1LE suspension still have the SS "step out"?

MT ran a 12.7 with the 1LE.

Last week I did some 1/4 mile runs... it was not a proper strip. On a cold day with really cold tires and untreated concrete with a 25mph cross wind with 3/4 of a tank of gas and my big 270lb ass I ran a 13.3... @ 109... did I mention I am a total noob. This is a mid 12 second car all day in the proper hands. The real issue is a shift into 4th is needed right before the line.

Also remember the tread pattern on the rear tires is set up more for cornering than launching. A 2 tire swap would probably help a good bit.

I had a 2000 WS6 Trans-Am, T56 transmission and 3.73 rear, bone stock with 76k miles. with the stabillitrac completely turned off, I ran a 13.1@109 with something like a 2.2 second 60. This was in July, in south Florida... This 1LE is much stronger. I'm thinking mid 12s with good air and either icing the intake or a tune. It's also not going to run it's fastest until it has at least 10k miles on it, IMO.

Prior to this car, I hadn't driven a MT in over 23 yrs but I agree with tramtwo. This car in the right hands can and will be a 12 second car all day. I am a Very inexperienced dragster and I managed to run 13.22 in the quarter. This was my first time ever racing at a dragway. I have a lot of work to do.

So many of us have trouble matching magazine times, me included.

That is a very common stock LS3 time. That 109 mph tells the power tale. For mid 12s you will need 112-113 mph. I suspected the need to shift into fourth with the 1LE. A stock LS3 non 1LE will pass the traps right at the top of 3rd gear. As soon as you start modding the non 1LE LS3 you need the shift to 4th as well.

With the cold tires, did you have any wheelhop?

Congrats on going to the track! It's too much fun for $15 (Atco).

I take it that other SS was a stock L99. He trapped 104 and you beat him even though his 60 foot was a little better. I can't get my 60 foot under 2.1 either with the Pirellis. Still your MPH looks like most LS3s.

Wheelhop?

They'd have to grab some to hop ... remember this was not a proper 1/4 mile track.... everyone out there spun off the line... a lot.

Im hoping to go soon. I do get quite a bit of wheel hop...so much that I have already broken an axle. Im hoping to beat my time in the '13 SS i had. 12.7 at 113. I think this car will do it. I ran my buddy's cam only 2000 SS and he traps 116. From a roll it was dead even with me barely pulling ahead.

A good ET is 100% about getting the car to hook so your 60ft is the most important thing to look at when it comes to analyzing your slip. The (accurate) rule of thumb is that every tenth you lower your 60ft equals 2 tenths reduction in E/T. It's just math and you cant argue it....

If we use the slip from Cruisn1 as an example above we can play with the numbers:

He ran a 13.22 w/2.19 60ft so if he ran:
2.09 60ft = 13.02
1.99 60ft = 12.82
1.89 60ft = 12.62

About the best 60ft a good driver in a higher HP RWD car can expect on street tires is about a 2.00....< on average with many other factors.

High 12s on street tires are obtainable.....mid 12s do not seem realistic on the stock tires without mods.

I had the opportunity to briefly drive a 1LE Camaro here (Michigan) last week and with the tires heated, but 40 degree temps and dirty streets, I rolled into it at about 20mph and blazed the tires in first so I let off and short shifted into second.....The stock tires will need a lot of heat in them and the track itself to hook well.

Thanks and heck yeah it was alot of fun!! Yes the other Camaro was a L99 and yep my start was not impressive at all. Im a rookie so hopefully I can get a better 60 foot in the near future.
