ZL1 Engine Potential
Do you think our ZL1 engine can face-off with a Hemi engine?

Pretty sure the Hellcat & ZL1 are pretty dang close in the 1/4 from what I've seen here...both trapping similar times & really a drivers race.
After the 1/4, I would think the HC would start to pull on us with all that extra HP, but not 100%?? Add any sort of turns into the mix & you cannot really compare the two...the ZL1 is a far superior overall handling / breaking vehicle on the road course. |

Potential wise... you mean stock vs stock of other vehicles or the potential of power you can get with the stock LT4?
-ZL1 is faster than hellcat 1/4. Both bone stock and street tires but that's the car's doing. Drivers change... And both run SUPER close. -ZL1 can actually turn, now this... doesn't matter who the drivers are haha. -HC is more roomy but both are comfortable on the open road. As for the LT4 potential, it's actually insane. There are many stock block 1k rwhp ones out there (check out LMR for example and most you will find c7 zo6s and camaro is actually much less restrictive than the c7s, thanks to the already TRI-Y shorty headers and much much better cooling!). A simple procharger replacement of the stock SC lands the LT4 at 750+ rwhp on 91 octane and 770+ on 93! I am also not trying to be bias or anything. I do like HC and the Demon and what Dodge is doing. It's not my cup of tea due to that I like my car being able to turn but it breeds competition which makes customers win! |

LOL, Well this was a Hemi thread...the OP didn't mention the New 911 Porshe released either if we are taking the train off the tracks. I can't wait to see what this 700HP lightweight machine is going to do at the ring. 2.5 0-60

The LT4 versus Hellcat motor is not comparable bone stock or modded. They both share a 6.2L motor but that's were it stops. The 1.7L LT4 blower is no match for the HP/TQ potential of the 2.4-2.7L Hellcat blowers.
They simply push more air & fuel through the combustion chambers. Outside the motor, the chassis, suspension, and everything wrapped around these powertrains changes. At the dragstrip on a tire you better be bringing it against Hellcat auto.

I don't keep up with it, but what are the HC's consistently running?? Thinking this new wide body / fat cat should be faster with their bigger rubber now...I'm only talking stock fwiw. |

Bone stock Hellcats have run high 10's on just a drag radial. Catch them on the street on their small factory rear tires and it's a drivers race. That will change with the wide body Hellcat as you mentioned. The limiting factor on power with the LT4 vs Hellcat motor is the blower size.

I think the hellcat engine is easier and cheaper to make big horsepower than the LT4. With pretty much just pulleys, BAP, Injectors, ECU and tune and E85 it will make close to 900 rwhp. The below tuner sells a package for about $5,500.
http://www.barthtuning.com/store/p4/...5_Package.html Also, the 4.5L Whipple is out and HHP has already put one on and it made 1,000 hp on the stock long block with supporting mods. http://www.hellcat.org/threads/hellc...-1000hp.71401/ The disadvantage of the LT4 is the small blower and direct injection. Direct injection injectors are a lot more expensive I believe and harder for tuners. Also it seems like you have to have a cam with larger builds which costs more money. |

Approximate LT4 Power Levels:
Bolt ons: 650 RWHP + E85 & Ported Blower: 700 RWHP + Cam: 750-775 RWHP + Heads: 800 RWHP + Everything else: 820 RWHP. What 2NASSTY said is dead on as usual. Hellcats are no joke on the highway or the strip. Hellcat engines crank out 900+ RWHP on bolt ons and E85. Their A8 is insanely quick too, coupled with spongey suspension that helps the weight to really transfer hard...They're definitely a tad quicker than an A10 ZL1 stock, and mod for mod, wayyy faster. This is the discussion I've had here before, no one likes when I say the above, but it's true. GM let us down for the highway/strip usage compared to our current competitors. No doubt when the GT500 comes out it will beat the Hellcat in the highway/strip category, which already beats the ZL1, and the GT500 will probably out do/tie the ZL1 on a road course by taking pieces from a GT350R = We are behind again. GM did the same thing to us 5th gen ZL1 owners, our competitors (GT500s, Hellcats), left us for dead when racing how 99% of owners get to race...Three honk races in Mexico or strip nights. |
