Hi guys I just got a set of kooks long tube second hand and having some trouble installing them. I got both sides of the long tubes on head but it seems the mid pipe connector is too long to mate with the factory exhaust, I will include a photo of what I mean.

Did I possibly buy long tubes for the wrong car and this guy “got” me or what’s your guys take on this?

Take off the rear part or the exhaust and then slip it on and hang the rear section on the hangers and it will more than likely work .

Agreed, ⬆️ looks like perfect fit just need to slide the exhaust back cause they line up perfectly

Haha thanks guys it just seemed like it was too long no matter what way I did it. I’ll try to do the slip joins first and connect and see how it goes away work.

Sometimes it helps to just step away from it for a bit to get a clearer thinking.

Thanks for the help. Wasn’t sure if it was normal to have to push them back further like that. My stock exhaust does look like they cut the oem X pipe out and replaced mufflers as well so maybe they added some length to it without noticing also since it was chopped and welded up so much.

Update- I ended up getting them fully installed tonight and it runs well, minor exhaust leaks at the slip joint from connector pipe to cat back area I will work on tomorrow.

Also, when installing the headers I seemed to overlook that these might be z28 headers from my research. It has a D port flange on the kooks instead of fully round? Also the connector pipe is 3” to 2.75”... was looking on sites and they all say “d port ls7 flange can be ordered for additional charge” on the kooks headers product page.

Is there a major downside to me running these instead of traditional round if I don’t have leaks at the head? I’m sure there is but figured I’d still ask anyways. I did a lot of looking online and it seems d port heads use round headers no problem but I’ve never heard of them being used the other way around. Guess it’s my luck for buying used instead of ordering new ones...

New to these cars but think I’m learning a lot reading about everything so far, trying to not get bummed out about these maybe being wrong ones after all but it ain’t the end of the world after all.
