Camaro VIN No. 0001

I spoke with Joel Smith, the sales manager at Hendrick Chevrolet in Cary, N.C., yesterday. He is a great guy to deal withm by the way.

I am No. 3 at that dealer behind two Camaros Rick Hendrick personally ordered, one of which is VIN No. 0001.

According to Joel, the first production Camaro Rick ordered will be a silver 2SS with black rally stripes.

Purely by coincidence, mine is a 1SS, silver with black rally stripes.

"You're going to have a low VIN number," he told me.

VIN No. 0001 was sold for 350,000$ at the Barrett.

I watched it go.

Yea, to Rick Hendrick. He still has to order it through a dealer and it just so happens that he owns a dealership or two.

I also ordered from Rick Hendrick Chevrolet in Cary,N.C. I was number 3 in July and went to the dealership on Friday to check to see what they got on there consenus. It looks like I am number 5 now.I saw with my own eyes the 4 ahead of me and can tell you that unless you have changed your order since Friday they all were 2 SS Camaros.I must have got bumped back because of Ricks two cars.I saw the names of the 4 ahead of me and didn't see any listed as hendrick. If you don't mine me asking when did you put your deposit on your car.

Ah I didn't know it was Hendrick that bought it.

He's a lucky dude that car is such a collectable it's not even funny. Probably the first of the last V8 Camaro series eh?

How weird. I ordered my Camaro through Hendrick, too on Nov. 10 th. A good friend of mine turned me on to Dominic there, got my workbench order number the same day. I wonder how many of us there are? Mine's a 1LT/RS CGM so I'm screwed no matter where I am on line but I'll wait as long as it takes to get exactly what I want. I think its kind of unfair to say whos number what at the dealership. Feels like Chevy is choosing for us-

So do V6's and V8's have their own VIN series?

What I don't think a lot of future Camaro owners understand is, It does not matter what day you came in to put your order in (10/13/08 or 3/15/09), it is totally up to the dealer to what order GM picks your order. The dealer is able to prioritize your order in "Dealerworld". So, you may have been at the dealer on 10/13, but that does not mean your #1, everybody should ask their dealer "what priority do you have my sold order tagged as in dealer world".
